I last posted about Smallville in May. I’ve found it’s best to leave a good long while between watching each episode, but I have finished disc 2.

Season 5, episodes 5 'Thirst' to 8 'Solitude'. spoilers )

On Tuesday, in the middle of all the horrible news, it was announced that Joss Whedon will be taking over directing duties on Justice League from Zach Snyder for tragic reasons. Obviously, one hopes that this helps a grieving family heal.

Wonder Woman (please be good! Not that I saw the show or read the comics, but as a woman who goes to see comic book movies, we're due one about a superheroine that's good) is occupying my brain more. But apparently the news about the merchandise isn't great.

Anyway, I’m watching Smallville season 5 for the first time on DVD. (I’ve been spoiled for a few big things on the show over the years. And the next DVD boxset I will go through will be a better show, but I’m watching it with much nostalgia for my experiences of the fandom for the first year or two. Quick recap: CHLOE.)

The colour palate is very striking, coming off the greys of metal, glass, stone and shadows of Person of Interest. I’m also rewatching the Pirates of the Caribbean movies right now, which has the blues and greys of the sea and brown and black of the ships, so the warm, bright, sun-kissed hues of Smallville, where everyone’s outfits are colour-coded, jumped out at me.

Next on the DVD pile is season 5 of Smallville. I know - I rewatched the season 4 finale the other daym which can be summed up by the punctuation marks '!?' and mostly not in a good way.

To cheer myself up (because of a cloud that has been blown away, but I thought making myself laugh would be a good thing) I've been rewatching selected episodes of Community over the past week. It’s something I’ve been planning to do since seeing The Martian, actually, and it was fun, because there were things I’d forgotten (many of the tags, some of the darkness) and I’ve been chuckling about various things and seeing representations of dalmations everywhere and then that Childish Gambino song where he’s doing a falsetto was playing when I was out having a coffee...

Over twenty months ago, I was happily watching the start of season 3 of PoI as it aired on the telly, when it went on a break and I didn’t realise it had come back until after too many episodes had been shown for me to catch up. I decided to buy the DVD, which I eventually did and I started rewatching the show over Christmas. I then had a month and a half where I didn’t have access to the DVDs, but that has been resolved and I’ve now rewatched the first eight episodes of the season. From here on in, it’ll be all new to me, give or take a couple of spoilers – it’s amusing that five (or one of its channels) is now on to airing the fifth season.

Also, I saw Hidden Figures over the weekend, I was thoroughly entertained and rated the script highly for what it managed to do. Great to see Taraji P. Henson lap up the role.

I discovered a little while ago that Scorpion is back on UK screens for a third series, but several episodes had aired, so I've decided just to switch to DVD and enjoy it from the beginning instead of trying to deal with the ITV2 schedule. Currently, I'm rewatching episodes I've already seen of Person of Interest season 2 on DVD.

Gilmore Girls – the rest of season 4

I meant to be good and write up my thoughts about the episodes on each disc of the box set, but frankly, I preferred watching the episodes than doing so, but having seen them all and with ‘A Year in the Life’ about to drop here they are…

And yes, I was finally poked into finishing this by the realisation that Netflix is dropping 'A Year in the Life' on Friday. I hope that those of you who have Netflix and are all caught up enjoy it. For my part, I'll be pleasantly surprised if I'm not spoiled by the time I get around to watching it on DVD, after the seasons I've yet to watch. Netflix have been making a big push for the show in the media that I read, even if I don't remember the show getting much traction in the UK when it was being made. I knew about it because I was watching shows from the same stable, but I only physically saw it on repeats on Nickelodeon or something like that.

While the rest of the world is getting ready for Netflix to show the new series, I’m catching up on season 4. The backstory is that I saw a few episodes of the show on Freeview, really enjoyed them and got the DVDs, season by season, to watch it in order, but I watched season 3 in cough – well, I’ve looked up and seen I didn’t mention watching it on lj, so let’s say a few years.

Now that I’d finished Deep Space Nine season 2, this was the next TV show on DVD on my literal ‘to watch’ pile (at this rate...) I rewatched the last episode of season 3 to reorient myself and then dived in. spoilers up to 4.4 'Chicken or Beef?' )

shallowness: Margaret Hale of North and South adaptation sitting at desk writing (Margaret North and South writing)
Apparently some people find round-up posts like this obnoxious. May I suggest scrolling or not clicking? For my part, yes, it's self-promotion, just in case, but it's also a chance to write a little about the writing process or what the fics mean to me. Anyway, if you're interested, over the past week and a half I've reposted the following:

No friend to those with noses (Dark Angel) G. Joshua, Alec. 488 words.
First posted: Late December 2005. Summary: A smelly cat is no friend to those with noses; Joshua has a snout.

A clear view (Dark Angel) PG. Alec, Max, Mole, Dalton (Max/Alec implied). 880 words.
First posted: January 2006. Summary: Alec rescues Dalton, Max is furious at how he did it and Terminal City gets entertained for free.

Days, weeks, months and years (ER) PG. Haleh, Neela and Ray. First posted: February 2006. Two post ‘Dream House’ 12.06 drabbles.

Yesterday, I crossposted: Epicinium (Smallville) Teen. Lois, Chloe, Clark, Gabe, Lana. 2,682 words. Coda for 4.8 ‘Spell’.
Summary: The aftermath of the eighteenth birthday party that Lois and Chloe don’t remember.

Notes )

I don't know if I'll be able to continue reposting fic as regularly, although given that I'm only up to the start of 2006 and only started Dreamwidth in 2009, I don't want to stop again.
shallowness: Margaret Hale of North and South adaptation sitting at desk writing (Margaret North and South writing)
Title: Epicinium
Fandom: Smallville
Rating: Teen
Characters/Pairing: Lois, Chloe, Clark, Gabe, Lana.
Summary: The aftermath of the eighteenth birthday party that Lois and Chloe don’t remember.

Disclaimer: I don’t own these characters and don’t profit from this fanfiction.
Author's Note: 2,682 words. Coda for 4.8 ‘Spell’. Potentially triggering references to non-consensual sex/lack of consent issues. ‘Epicinium’ is Latin for aftermath or afterwards. Written because Chloe didn’t get to enjoy her birthday party, all Lois’s work was for naught and I wanted to recognise that. I hadn’t seen beyond this episode when I started writing this fic. This fic hasn’t been beta read, so constructive criticism is welcome.

Digital Spy was reporting at the end of last week that Nashville was cancelled - I wasn't going to be able to watch season 4 and I don't even know if it's started airing here. Also Castle spoiler ) And the Huntingbird spin-off is not going to fly. Just like last year.

In other news, I watched the Rogue Cut of DoFP and I don't think the extensions add much, though I suspect I'm now going to be concentrating on reading X-Men fic before X-Men Apocalypse comes out.

Dave have, for once, not taken a break after airing a season of Parks and Rec, so we've gone straight into season 6, yay!
