Orphan Black 2.5 Ipsa Scientia Potestas Est
Grossest moment? Seeing that they’d sewed up Grace’s mouth. Although seeing Helena’s handiwork and Rachel decide to stay in the flat, revealing quite how disturbed Miss Control is, among other things, came close.
Not surprised that Cal had a gun, see my previous comments. Maybe he does have a hand in Kira’s specialness too. That child is ridiculously cute, but more interesting was that she knew to distract the officer. Also that she could hear/sense him coming before Cal.
Whether Cal will put two and two together and come up with clones before it’s revealed to him somehow, who knows.
Helena’s scenes were pretty powerful. I almost thought Paul was a goner, for extrinsic reasons, because I think he’ll baulk at handing Kira over and choose Sarah over Rachel when it comes down to it, which makes him predictable. And this as all sorts of alliances were being forged or strengthened...Leekie was given even more shades in this ep and as Sarah tentatively drew Helena into her inner circle. While we learned that Helena started the killing young and didn’t have much of a chance, we didn’t get to forget all that she’s done.
So now Sarah knows something of Cosima’s secret illness, while I’m left assuming that Mrs S had something to do with the fire that didn’t kill Rachel’s father.
And how is Art subsisting now? Was he suspended or forced to leave the force? As always, I'm an episode behind.
The Good Wife 4.19 Tying the knot
Well, thanks for making me, probably like the main character, want to go take a shower after the end of the episode, SHOW. Does attorney-client privilege now reapply to Alicia for Renata’s confession?
I was a little disappointed that Morena Baccarin’s character had been ‘removed’ although the story was pretty engrossing. Who else was drooling over parts of Sweeney’s establishment? Some of the wallpaper was very choice.
And yes, I noted that this was directed by Josh Charles, which made the court scenes, in particular, more poignant. Not that it wouldn’t have been fun, anyway, to see Diane asking questions of Alicia the witness. But also there was Diane-Kalinda working in tandem and Finn revisiting the court where he’d been through so much.
His boss is an utter jerk, always proving Alicia’s most cynical assumption about him is correct. I was amused at Peter deciding to do what Eli called ‘that thing’ although I’m not sure what his motivation was – does he think it’ll change Alicia’s mind if he goes after her enemy? Poor Finn’s face as he saw the endorsement. He just wants to prosecute cases with adequate prep time!
I liked that they showed Alicia’s position as horribly compromised WRT Sweeney and her many years of association with him. The cop seemed like a decent cop. And until she said that she’d thought it through and didn’t think Sweeney could have done it (and yeah, it probably was too tight a timescale when she’d lost him) I thought her evidence was a bit shonky on that point. On the other hand, I was impressed with her memory. Especially given the juggling she was doing that night. I liked rather than otherwise the return of making Alicia’s mental landscape visual, with her interrogating Sweeney about his jacket and Eli being physically there.
I tend to believe Zach – I would love us to develop more of how he is like Alicia, because I think they’ve focused more on Alicia-Grace and there was that bit where he punched someone that was all about Peter in him, but seeing Alicia with Owen reminded me that Zack is Grace’s big brother, which we’ve seen him be in past episodes, and if he was telling the truth, well, he is ‘Saint Alicia’s’ son. I tend to think the girl who called Alicia was acting from a broken heart, because I find Zack the heartbreaker amusing.
I was worried for what was going on in Alicia’s head in that she brought Owen along to recant what he’d said in the ‘intervention’. How did she think that was going to go?
Really good to have the siblings talk on the sofa – when the death was announced, it seemed like one more time when Alicia really needed someone to be there for her. Shame he couldn’t have turned up when she was in her funk. Oh well, it’s part of his characterisation that he genuinely cares, but can flake out. And he has a different take on wanting her to be happy (although given she’s still grieving, pushing her to go out and have sex might not be the best idea) and a different angle on The Decision.
First person to tell Alicia that the kids will leave the nest sooner rather than later gets a cookie.
Involving episode then, if not as high stakes as it has been.
(PS if they go Alicia/Finn while he seems to be in a committed marriage, it will hit my adultery squick hard. I know I shipped Alicia/Will, but this was after Peter’s spectacular adultery, and due to pining and their eyes.)
