I think it's got better in that they know more of the capablities of the actors and what works, plus there's a lot more backstory to work with and so much going on that you're rately bored. But it's also because Gotham knows it's a trainwreck and gleefully embraces that. Some of the violence and nastiness gets squicky for me and this is only in relation to seasons 1, 2 and 4; season 3 didn't get shown on free to air in the UK.
