It started off with them attempting to bring back Grazziano/camera, but he has been exposed as a ham by now. Fortunately, the routine turned into a contemporary by ballroom/Latin experts fest, which I enjoyed a lot, though I couldn’t tell you if there was a story or it it was just vignettes of red blood cells(?) being Very Emosh.
Claudia’s dress was too shapeless, Tess’s outfit had surprising feathers, Darcey’s gown was outdone by Shirley’s SHINY gown. Claudia threw in ‘Dynamic’ as her adjective o’the week, which suggests she’s been questioning all the pros since we had a squabble over the lack of dynamics in Faye’s jive.
Evidently they’d all changed into their highest scoring outfits, which felt fairer – that they could compete on their best.
But we were denied the dance-off we should have had – Joe vs. Lauren would have been close. I don’t begrudge him getting through, except I do this way. Poor Ashley. I wanted the judges to acknowledge that the voting is what it is, but as it turns out, Darcey gave a coherent, respectful and encouraging comment. (For once.)
Cue Kevin promising his most ambitious showdance yet, because of course he did.
Little Mix’s chorus was a bit Destiny’s Child lite, and their moves looked better in black trouser leg, but the lady pros coming in to dance with them worked.
Blah blah judges.
I pondered the highly unlikely outcome of Faye versus Ashley in the dance-off and the judgy tantrum that would ensue, but it was Lauren. Although I think she ought to have gone weeks ago, she’s squeezed out a couple of decent ballrooms recently, and was exceedingly gracious in her comments.
As Pasha didn’t drop Ashley and she didn’t concuss herself – the only scenario where Lauren would get through – Lauren was obviously voted off. They made her cry with her ‘best bits’ and they did more actual dancing in their last dance than most do.
When the finalists’ names were called, Ashley was slow to wave – I think she was just dazed, although I would totally understand if she was over it. (Never going to happen, but for her dances in the final, I’d suggest she do one of Stacey’s Latins, Joe’s Viennese and Faye’s rumba routine to troll the viewing public.)
