It didn't work for me. I wanted more explanation of how the Martianisation occured if all the Martians had died off. And like you I didn't see how one green plant would make the clouds part - especially because green plants need light in the first place.

And having made the point about British colonialism (as Wells did), we were still able to rejoice because a British scientist had found a way forward.

I would much rather they hadn't included all the post-apocalyptal time, because I felt it tried to add something without thinking it through properly.
