Strictly results - 15 become 14

Striking opening pro routine, loved the graphic look and the cozzies. Nancy, despite being tiny, got a starring role as the top model, though by the time the pros all came back to dance together, it did feel as if the routine were all posing and no heart.

But anyway, Tess was wearing something better than previously, while Claudia had retreated to safe, boring sartorial territory. We had a sensible round-up, bar Claudia’s claim that there should be no dance-off. Nope, the only reason we put up with 15 couples is because we’ve had months without Strictly and because we know the episodes will get a little bit shorter. Anton made the point that most of the couples had improved on their week one scores, and the round-up made clear that Kaye was in trouble as well as the bottom two.

I was convinced they’d inform us of who was in the dance off in three batches, but the names kept coming. I cheered at all the people who signed their thanks (I’m not criticising those who didn’t, because it must be an overwhelming experience, but it’s lovely that this has stuck because of Rose.) Ellie T was among the most surprised.

Robbie’s outfit was a bit puzzling, as was his hair. I was glad he wasn’t singing his latest, though that was quite a country take on ‘She’s the One’ but he wasn’t in his best voice, so we had Neil and the British new pro, the best bits were the lifts to ‘flyyyyying’.

Judges debrief: Shirley claimed Tyler was one to watch, Anton countered with Molly. Motsi had to talk up Ellie T’s paso more than she wanted to, while Craig wanted more technique from Helen’s cha cha. The audio of Katya yelling at Tony from the bin was hilarious.

Second batch of results, and they really put James through the wringer, although if he had faced Kaye, he’d had a better score for his tango and should have been saved. But it was Matt. Tony was a bit graceless in the Clauditorium.

Is Amy going to be spraypainted green for Gamora? If the answer is ‘no’ then she should look like Rocket. (This from the woman who hoped James would be Groot, actually.)

Dance-off: I spotted some new mistakes from Kaye, but as I hadn’t watched most of Matt dancing the first time around, I couldn’t compare his turn this time. I did watch him more, FWIW. Three voted to save him (aww, Kai’s out), although Shirley said she’d have saved Kaye, so Matt is in trouble because the Brossettes aren’t saving him. Kaye took it on the chin.

It may not be the WHO declaring the pandemic over, but the group hug after the awkward last dance means a lot.
