Very good opening pro group dance – I want to call it a ballet, because it was a narrative through dance, and very effective too. When I’d heard on ITT they were doing the Icarus myth, I did wonder why not Hades/Persephone, as that would be more appropriate, but maybe they did before I started watching the show. Anyway, I loved the depiction of the sun, the last ditch attempt to stop Icarus, and the final bit where they niftily ‘magicked’ (via TV magic) those wings for Icarus!Nikita and had him fly towards his immolation.
Recap of the night, where Motsi previewed her outfit, which despite a touch of the swimming armbands, insisted we forget ‘last night’ because she was bossing the judges’ outfits ‘tonight’. (Though Shirley’s hair was nice.) The recap described the top group as Tyler, Ellie T and Kym, made the middle group massive, dragging Tony into it, and put Ellie S and James at the bottom.
First set of names: Ellie S was saved, the joint tops, and Will. And Fleur was under the red light…again.
Claudia got an emosh Ellie S to laugh, and we learned Ellie T is doing a rumba next week, so she’s definitely not going to be at the top of the leaderboard consecutively. Then Rina Sawayama (me neither) did a song I’d rather forget, interacting with the pro dancers and making the lady pros join her in wearing a corset (basically) (remember when feminism was about burning bras instead of popstrels 'expressing themselves' or do you think it was inspired by a potted history of Madonna by someone with a terrible attention span?…never mind). There was a touch of line dancing.
Motsi and Anton shone in the judges bit, the clips were of Craig as Morticia.
Second lot of names: basically, they decided to torture Helen for longer than Molly, but James was under the red light (and though it must be horrible to know the public aren’t voting for you in droves, Fleur was pretty much safe). They’ve made a big deal of Tyler getting Dianne further than she’s been since Joe, but now it was Graziano’s turn. I can’t believe Claudia is actually going to take on a piglet. But, okay.
Dance off: James seemed a little more hesitant over the lifts, and I still found Fleur and Vito’s salsa frenetic. Anton claimed that both couples had danced worse the second time around. All four judges saved Fleur, and James admitted he’d known it was a fait accompli. Tess and Amy made him cry for being a good dad (but not a good dancer), and he seemed too tired to bother with a last dance.
