3.9 April and Andy’s Fancy Party

Whoa. I knew April and Andy were getting married, I also knew it would be happening sooner rather than later because I’d read an interview with Chris Pratt where he was talking about how they didn’t hang about with such relationship developments on the show because they kept thinking they were going to get cancelled, but whoa.

I was in agreement with Leslie, A LOT, because it barely seemed like April and Andy were competent to arrange a dinner party, and her concerns about their age and the duration of their relationship were pretty valid, but of course it all turned out to be oddly touching. I especially liked how it was tied in with Ben’s decision (ha, he chose to stay off his own bat!) and contrasted with Ann’s singles night. Donna was great, as was Chris freaking out that weird Goth guy with his positivity. They brought back a lot of people, which I always appreciate.

That’s the secondedding this season, actually.

3.10 Soulmates

Yay, the natural order of things returns, as I laughed more at this, first at Ron and Chris’s burger challencge (nice inversion of the usual Chris + food = Ron horror formula), but also at Leslie’s douche-investigation or whatever the term was. I really liked that it was clear Leslie had been talking to Ann about Ben and that both Leslie and Ben had now decided to act on their feelings. I am so delighted with how this relationship is being handled!

I too was surprised by his turning her down although she totally didn’t pick up on the way that he turned her down. But Tom N. Haverford being her soulmate? That was worth a shout of laughter. 'He's like my little sister!' As was the way Leslie eventually found to handle him – he’s certainly not going to be able to cope with Donna. But backtracking, I liked that there was genuine anger from Leslie that Tom had crossed a line amid all the wacky shenanigans.

And IRL, I do respect the line that Chris drew, I see the sense of it. You could actually use Will and Alicia's relationship in The Good Wife as a good example of why boss/worker is well dodge, however much they tried to repress/compartmentalise. But I'm a shipper (I ship a few boss/secretary pairings and I don't want to think too much about that pattern.)

The Good Wife 5.8

THIS SEASON IS SO GOOD AND IT’S NOT LIKE THE PREVIOUS SEASONS WERE SLOUCHES.

No more all caps (but I’d like to point out that this has been a somewhat sleep-deprived week for me.)

Oh, Owen, coming back into the show with your Alicia/Will shippiness and giving me Alicia/Will FEELINGS again. (I was gritting my teeth, accepting that Alicia/Peter WAS set in stone, that not wanting to deal with Will and Diane fighting and being unable to stop treating the associates so badly was her motivation, and I still think Owen’s just spouting a theory, but it’s out there, and coming from a place of fraternal love – hee, she is in warrior princess mode. However it shakes out, I think that Will saying it’s over is gubbins and I expect them to get it on at least once this season because both he and Alicia are so wired and in each other’s faces.)

Also, Owen-Alicia links into Zach-Grace and Zach is so his father’s son, and of course, they don’t know that they’re under secret state surveillance (because Zach broke up with Neesa), but I loved how they played all the Zach and Grace interactions, like how they are rude to each other like only siblings can be, but have each other’s back.

And Will’s case is going to continue, right? I’m wondering if it’s a Top of the Lake scenario, I also think that Will needs to listen more to Kalinda, because what is the point of having her there if he doesn’t? Though it was good to see him consciously try to connect with a client, so I don’t want the client to be guilty merely because of that. And also what Geneva and that cop did was hinky.

On to things that were resolved – whoever is left standing in Florrick and Agos is going to be trustworthy, probably, although Alicia won’t trust them with her daughter. THE TRUSTEE came back, and he likes Cary and Alicia and watching them play games/practise the law.

Also, Cary needs more to do and he needs to look rumpled when doing it.

I liked that we had Alicia realising that David Lee was so angry because she’d hurt and betrayed him too. Yes, even him for it was all too easy to believe he’d try to bribe the Native American tribe.

Her walking around the old firm was fun.

It’s so multi-layered!
