3.15 The Bubble
A really good and pretty crammed episode. I wondered when Ben would get to meet Marlene, and that was pretty spot on. And Ron’s glee at watching Chris try to re-arrange things, then actually feeling bad for everyone epitomised why I enjoy him so much. I don’t remember if we’ve seen the fourth floor before, but I do love it when we go to other parts of the City Department and see a whole new (usually seedier) side of Pawnee. But Ron’s analysis of how the others operate was spot on, and I liked that Leslie came back into the newfangled set up and protected Ron as she’d been kept out of that plot, being in a flap about her mother and Ben.
No on-screen making out from the actual cutest thing on four legs in that building though. You tease, show. You tease.
3.16 L’il Sebastian
Really good final episode for the season. Having L’il Sebastian die was a suitably momentous event for (nearly) everybody – Ron teared up for the second time in his life! And then Chris facing his own mortality (I got as far as thinking that that might soften his approach and let him be kind to Leslie/Ben, because who could resist their version of role-play?) And it allowed the town to have a memorial service that left me in giggles.
Plus nearly everybody (well, not Ann) got their moment, Tammy I was dangled before us as was Leslie’s political future. Oh, but Leslie, how could you? Okay, she’s only got as far as ‘really liking’ Ben and what they were dangling in front of her was a lifelong dream, and it’s human nature, so I know why. I very much liked the take on the moral lesson of lying and not keeping the rules: Leslie and Ben’s attempt to silence the maintenance guy leading to Ron losing his precious facial hair. Also, I thought the secret message handed out to Jerry would tip Ron off. And lo it did.
Half-mast was indeed too high, a few feet would be more apt.
Sadly, unlike after season 1, we’re not getting season 4 immediately. So, I’ll just say that I’ve loved this season. Leslie/Ben brought gave me an adorkable, irresistible ship to get invested in the show on a whole new level. In 'The Bubble,' when she said that the beginning of a relationship was the past part, I felt so sad for her and hope that this will be so much better once they get over the latest hurdle. The past twentysomething episodes and the history obviously had me invested in everyone, laughing at and with them, and the show went interesting, wacky places, neatly avoiding some sitcom pitfalls. Ron Swanson is probably still my favourite character. While I enjoyed seasons 1 and 2, I felt that I wasn't loving it as much as everyone else who'd written so much bigging it up. I felt like I hadn't discovered what they'd discovered for myself, but this season has mostly erased that.
And I may have done a little dance of joy at the news that Sir Bruce Forsyth will no longer be presenting the main Strictly show. I’ve been hoping for this to happen for a couple of years now.
If they want to keep it ‘inhouse’ I hope they go on bended knee to Claudia. There are also a dozen billion presenters who have been contestants on the show to turn to, so I think we may avert Tess and him indoors. If they are deciding to bring in someone completely new things up, I hope they realise that older gent/younger lady no longer cuts it.
