(try to) make 'em laugh
Brooklyn Nine-Nine season 1 finale
I was laughing heartily thoughout and miffed when the ad break got in the way, so clearly I enjoyed this. With the big teaser and ballroom dancing, not to mention Vivian breaking up with Charles, it felt pitched at the right level for a series finale.
I’m sorry, Jake, but I did think ‘And what have you done now?’ after the big announcement that he’d left the NYPD. But it was nice that it was about him trusting Holt and having him go on a six-month undercover job that we can hear about makes for a good thing that he can do over the break, plus, if they want, it can be wrapped up quite quickly. I can also see Charles and Gina repressing what happened between them for six months if needs be. And yes, I was so relieved it wasn’t Rosa. My heart would have thrown up a little if it had been, after everything.
The Jake/Amy was adorable, the confession felt pitched just right for where he was emotionally after the past few weeks and in that specific situation of saying goodbye. And she wasn’t forced to give much of a reaction, just left to process, which is fine for this point in the show. I liked that she was a terrible dancer but that she came up with the necessary distraction, that she was Amy Santiago, but followed her gut about Jake’s belief – even if Jake was initially unfair about Holt. I think he wanted Jake to have evidence to protect Jake going after someone so powerful more than anything, I think.
Please can we have Terry speaking more Japanese in season 2?
The Mindy Series 2.2
So, goodbye then, Celebrity Mate of Lahiri’s #59.
A big ‘eh’ to most of it. I didn’t recognise the guy playing Mindy’s ex, who’s wedding set her off in the very first episode. That is, I recognised the actor, but not the character.
If Jeremy is going to make a random swipe at Welshmen, I demand a hot one (and not someone faking the accent kthxbi) to turn up playing someone who stole an ex of his.
Finally, having all the characters comment on how awful Mindy’s hair is isn’t actually doing anything about how ghastly it is.
