Agents of SHIELD 3.17 The Team
So much mocking of ‘Secret Warriors Initiative’. What kind of a name is that? Daisy’s gifts don’t include naming things.
I was a bit underwhelmed by the big rescue, tbh. I am not that excited about Daisy’s team of Inhumans as Daisy is. But then, nobody could be. She gets to lead! I just think of the X-Men...
Fitz is the snarkiest.
Okay, both Elena and Mack learning the other’s language was cute, especially because it wasn’t tokenism – he stuck to Spanish and she stuck to English with each other.
Powers Boothe was really mesmerising in the interrogation scenes. In the first, his free hand was auditioning for its own special award – and I don’t mean that as a burn, because it didn’t feel like too much, but it was a lot of hand performing.
Cue Coulson being infected with paranoia, with the human agents of SHIELD doubting the Inhuman agents of SHIELD and sowing the seeds of paranoia among the Inhumans. I wish Coulson had acknowledged how not great the position he’d been pushed into was. Sneaking behind the backs of paranoid powered people was never going to go well. I did start wondering who was infected, suspecting everyone, and speculating on whose powers would beat whose, so that worked well.
Finally, Fitzsimmons got a move on. It just seemed so odd that their relationship hadn’t seemed to progress over the past few episodes. Of course, they were always more likely to now that paranoia had stopped Mack/Yo-yo in its tracks and Daisy/Linc's trust issues had exploded.
And then it turns out Daisy was infected, so our punchy heroine with powers can hang about with a parasite (of many names, in this garb, I thing Evil!Neo is quite apposite) in the dead body of the ex who betrayed her [note that Ward’s memories insisted on Evil!Neo calling her Sky] being brainwashed by him. I can see why they went there. Certainly, her using her powers against her trapped team was powerful.
This ep had a lot of good things about it, even if it didn’t fully cohere.
I may get to see Civil War today or tonight...
