Tellytastic

Last Tango in Halifax ep 3 – I’m catching up on Sundays, so I’m a week behind.

Some quite long speechifying going on in this ‘ere episode, ending on quite a Wuthering Heights note (Robbie’s attitude towards Jillian is coming from smothered feelings for her, right?) Caroline talking about how her parents’ loveless marriage affected her ability to interact with others made sense. Creepy dolls. And there was one thing that I found stupid and it made me hopping mad, but this isn’t the place or time...

And apparently it’s getting recommissioned for a second series. And, while half-watching The One Show last night with Anne Reid and Miranda Hart, I discovered that the reconnecting-later-in-life romance truly happened to Sally Wainwritght’s mother, which is lovely.

AND Miranda is back for a third series on BOXING DAY.

The Hour - penultimate ep of season 2

I don’t know if I can adequately render the happy flailing that was my response to most of this episode. It hit so many of the emotional notes that I wanted for the characters (even Isaac! Even Hector and Marnie – who got so many points for what she did at the club even if she didn’t know what was going on. And while his wanting to do the big sacrifice is sweet, Hector isn’t the man for it. And then Lix and Randall!!! And the nifty way they handled Bel’s Bill and his suppositions among the bigger question of Bel’s identity and what she wants. And I could snigger at Freddie playing James Bond (oh, the meta of it all). And Lix being a mother, Marnie not being able to and Bel an ambivalent figure, rejecting playing The Mother at least. Her freak out at the death made total sense, she is, after all, the only one Gillenti has paid a visit to her house. (I am worried for Bel and/or Freddie, to be honest.)

Also the coming together of the plots.

I don’t know if I’ll be able to watch the final episode live; it depends on when/if I’ll be able to see the Hobbit.
