shallowness: Beautiful blue alien in front of colourful background (Zhaan Farscape wonders I've seen)

Recs (3/3)

Fanfiction and fanfiction in the following fandoms: The Martian, Matilda, Melissa and Joey, Pacific Rim, Sherlock, Swallows and Amazons, Tam Lin and Zootopia/Zootropolis.

The Martian

Aftermath: sevenfoxes (Chris/Beth, ficlet(?), teen, part of ‘Don’t Talk To Strangers’ a multifandom collection)
Quiet, lovely, with believable detail, Beth has to face up to what her kissing Chris means.

Which Way to Go: anr (Gen, Melissa Lewis, Mark Watney)
I loved their relationship in the film, and this is such a sympathetic exploration of them afterwards.

Matilda (movie)

Walking on Sunshine: purplefringe
A lovely vid about Matilda and Miss Honey’s relationship.

Melissa and Joey

Milestone: jaegermighty (Mel/Joey, teen for language)
I am so glad this fic exists, because it 'gets' them - all the characters and their interactions.

Pacific Rim

Mako Mori and the Eleventy-One Thousand Bridezillas: tielan (Mako/Raleigh)
Ignore the title. Mako and Raleigh go to Australia to find a home. While being very much a domestic fic, it gets the balance right between humour, teen-rated steaminess and grief.

Sherlock

Untitled drabble: thesmallhobbit
Want some fluff featuring Molly, Rosie and John? Yes, you do. (Written for my prompt.)

Swallows and Amazons

On the Burning Deck: halotolerant (Nancy-centric, Nancy/John, teen, injuries in keeping with setting)

We follow Nancy one night during the Blitz, a night when she turns to her memories on the lake to help her keep going. She's so very her, but with a wider perspective, and the fic handles that transition period of the inescapable growing up beautifully. There’s one spoilery development that went against the grain, or certainly as written, with me, but the whole is so terrific it doesn’t detract from the overall quality. I'd quote the sailing metaphors, but then I'd quote and quote, so I’ll limit myself to

‘When she was a child she never saw the tourists swarming on the lake that was her seven seas. She never saw hills or huts or fields, but mountains, palaces, deserts and steppes, North Poles and archipelagos; beautiful, exotic and dangerous.’

Tam Lin (Pamela Dean)

Out of the Clutch of Chaos: astralis (Janet/Thomas, teen)
Janet's reaction felt totally natural, and her mental flail at the extraordinariness of the situation is grounded by familial arrangements. The conversation between Janet and Thomas is just right too. My only quibble would be that some of the slang seemed a wee bit anachronistic.

Zootopia/Zootropolis

Nocturnal: sanctuary_for_all (Part 3 of Scenes from a partnership, Judy/Nick, teen, ER)
I love the emotional currents going on here.
