if not now, when?

Downton Abbey 4.4

Well, having made itself THE most talked about show on British telly last week, what could it do this week?

Anna’s reaction to the rape was about what I expected. I wished she had listened to Mrs Hughes, I hated that she had to see that man, flinched when she had to sit next to him.

But let us move on to all the other stuff, much of which I found more involving. Um, re Tom/Mary, I think they are going to go there. Admittedly, I’m predisposed to see it, although I thought it would be in a rebound way and a someone else in my situation, partly, way and couldn’t imagine a happy ending, because he's grieving for her sister and she's grieving for his bro, but given the conversations they had, that Tom snapped when Edna mentioned Sybil and Mary said her brain was full of Matthew still, not to mention the driving off to York and the two prams side by side, I don’t think I’m making too much of a leap here.

Also I want Allan Leech to stay on the show forever and do reaction shots. This week, there was the one to Mrs Hughes OWNING Edna. She was awesome.

The doctor is my favourite male character on the show right this minute, though. Unlike most of them , he took Isabel’s rejection and then managed to be her friend. Most of them – like Gillingham, who had me gaping at his proposal – push it and push it, which is interesting given that we saw the ultimate version of not accepting a woman saying ‘no’ last week. I know they did make it clear why Gillingham had to marry soonish and had to have a good reason not to go through with proposing the woman he’d been making up to, and in his head it was all twu luv and blah blah blah, not to mention Mary doing her usual ‘No, yes, maybe, no’ (although for her, she was pretty sensible. Less than a year after being made a widow by the death of a man she was emotionally involved with for nearly a decade? It’s going to be really hard to move on from that.) But I doubt the show has noticed this pattern.

I was relieved poor Isabel, who had been noble, hadn’t been taking a walk anywhere near the vicinity of the kiss, though.

I barely care about Daisy, let alone the other three. This plotline should have been sorted out last series.

Rose, you dancing minx! The music at the club was exactly what Dancing on the Edge’s Stanley would have excoriated, although I loved the final song in his set. I’d been wondering when we’d get to see Rosamund again, so I was pleased to see her. As for Edith, given all the ‘what if I get pregnant?’ anvils that were dropping this episode, I wouldn’t be surprised if she’s the one, although I’d be more interested if she had to take on responsibility for Michael’s mad wife. And bump into Sir Anthony.

Will they write to The Lady for Cora’s new lady’s maid? No. (I love Raquel Cassidy though, and it’ll be interesting to see what her connection to Thomas is.)

Strictly results

Yeah, the ones that I thought would be in the bottom two were, although the producers teased us with ‘Oh no, is the Strictly viewership racist?’ again. Dave should be safe another week, BTW, after the clip of the stumble. I probably haven't mentally adjusted for how long he will be safe.

Lovely work from Iveta from up on high in the opening dance and I loved the simple look for Aliona, the use of the bench and of course the dancing in ‘When I fall in love’. (I forgot to mention the pros' wedding/splatting Craig dance opening Saturday's show, which says it all.)

Claudia, as ever, was ‘strordinary (for this show) and unless if Julian gets HIS dance, he is surely going to go. The public votes aren’t there, and he’s a weaker dancer than everyone except Dave.

The Wrong Mans

I caught up with episode 3 and lots of plot, more smiles than actual laughs and no more of Agent Jack Walker’s lovely Scottish voice. Last night, I there was episode 4 and jokes about Georgiana Darcy turning into a kingpin's daughter and behaving very badly. Then when the Russian's party started, I dipped out, then dipped back in. I don't think I'll bother with the rest of it.

I've seen (with selective fast forwarding) the last two It Take Two episodes. If Craig is off to have his hip operation, who is going to replace him? Karen isn't on It Takes Two next week. Is it a dance engagement or something else?
