The Good Wife 5.2
Well, that was electrifyingly good and I enjoyed every second of it.
My main take-out is concern for Will, now that Diane has betrayed him (oh Diane!) unnecessarily (oh, Diane!) At least he’ll have Kalinda...and David Lee after the dust settles. And the judiciary still hating him. And ouch.
I’d sort of forgotten Diane as Peter’s nomination, or thought that it had been shelved irretrievable. Of course, it occurred to me after thinking Peter was impressed by Diane’s loyalty that, knowing Alicia’s plans, he would be perfectly happy to put Will in the pincer.
So, moving on from implications to what was in the text: TWO YEARS! They’ve been spying on Diane (please let her find out so she can have a fight with Kurt about this intrusion) and Alicia because of a client I barely remember. On a meta level, I loved that these two guys (who worked brilliantly on the ‘are they brilliant or just really stupid?’ line) (BOTH) had got so invested in their subjects. Had even got so invested that they didn’t share that Alicia was going to leave her firm, but referenced what dress she was going to wear at the ball. Well, it’s been an interesting couple of years. I was fascinated by how that played out, how it intertwined with the rest of the story and then heart-broken Neesa counting as an excuse for them to extend their intrusion.
(I don’t remember which agency it was that was listening in on Alicia and allowed her to find out that Will had sent her a message after all.)
But the fact that we had Neesa come back and Beca, whose sole mission is to bring Eli down, and she keeps doing it beautifully – although I don’t remember where Beca’s standing with Grace was previously, her influence on Grace and how Grace growing up is disquieting Zach worked beautifully. Plus there’s the theme of Alicia doing her best as a parent, but not knowing the half of it.
Speaking of parenting: Alicia-Veronica drunkenness! Veronica/David played to perfection. Granted, I’m not sure how Veronica deduced where and how to send that money, but it’s nice that she did. I was expecting a terminal illness revelation until Alicia sipped her first drink.
But yeah, anyway, there was one moment where I saw Cary trying so hard to be Will to Alicia’s Diane (I don’t remember the details, just the impression), but he and the bonus hunters should really listen to Alicia, especially when Kalinda (underused) is sounding warning bells.
And in typing this up, it just occurs to me that David Lee gave us foreshadowing for this episode in the last.
Oooh, and Orange Guy (who plays an FBI agent in Person of Interest, but will forever be Orange Guy to me) turned up and made Alicia angry in a courtroom. And so she got to use the acronym manoeuvre on him. Very satisfying.
