Monday night's TV
B99 1.17 Full Boyle
Pretty funny Boyle-centric episode. I liked setting up Santiago & Diaz vs Hitchcock & Scully, and their ire that the other partnership had done better than them. But hey, the fact that Super Dan’s sheet was torn didn’t entirely excuse their riff, but the were ever so ‘umble after and learned from their Teaching Sarge. Like Holt’s joke that his audience, but not co-worker, found funny, nice callback to the last episode. We had a whole scene where Gina turned human. (I made a note to try to remember her name this time.)
Revenge 3.19 Allegiance
Maybe it’s the fact that we’re coming to the end of the season that’s focusing minds, but a lot of this was better than much of what we’ve seen recently on the show. I still think Javier is very whatever and his relationship with Charlotte is ridiculous (but I really him to have a scene with Aiden solely because he’s even taller than Nolan). I really didn’t believe that Nolan wouldn’t have realised, as I did, that Brenda was their guy the second he saw the picture.
But Emily went for an oldskool take-down – we even saw the hood, and found a way to bring Jack in. I’ll be interested if there’s some ulterior motive revealed as to her actions there or if we’re meant to take it at face value. There did seem to be a blind spot from Jack and Emily that it was their use of Stevie as the unknowing delivery mechanism for the salve that gave Victoria her weapon. Anyway, Jack also wasn’t quite dealing with the fact that Stevie got that he loved Emily last week (I don’t think that’s ever been in doubt, but that’s because of his love for wee!Amanda Clark, and whether it’s also romantic love after all that’s happened was the question). I do love that he’s chosen friendship with Nolan and Emily and their mission (so long as he remembers he has Carl), and the growing cracks in his relationship with Margiaux aren’t terribly handled.
The main thing is that the Graysons have suddenly stepped up their game, and in fairness, it’s been building up. We had Victoria bringing Gillam back to test her Emily theories and finally seeing a pattern. I don’t know if she’s put two and two together entirely – they’d make a bigger deal of that, but this feels important. Also, Conrad has a new associate, which I think may come from the tit-bits that Stevie got him as well as feeling threatened by Pascal. This plus the dead bodies to do with the flight being back into play is most interesting (if all the legit business talk wasn’t a front, I’d be rolling my eyes at some of it and ranting about Javier’s app). Even Daniel is busy manipulating everyone. I was going to say in the post about the last episode, except I was trying not to rant, that he’s become aggressively obnoxious, and if they try to sell that he really cares for Margiaux (in a twisted way, Charlotte, yes, but the whole family likes to pick her up and take advantage of her stupidity every now and then) I won’t buy it. I’m glad that Nolan has publicly declared war on him, though I wonder if Emily has okayed it. Of course, apart from wanting to protect Javier and get the best deal for himself, Nolan was trying to lord it over Javier because he is beta to Ems’ alpha (Charlotte was dead wrong when she snarked last episode that Nolan wasn’t at Emily’s beck and call, because maybe not because he fancies her, but he is at her beck and call so very very much.)
Lots of red dresses in this episode, btw.
