Aug. 29th, 2015 09:24 amI watched The Saint on DVD last night, because it seemed the most lighthearted film on my 'to watch' pile. Unfortunatly, it got beyond skippy at one bit. That's an observation, not a complaint, because IIRC I got the DVD from a charity shop, but it happened during a favourite trope of mind. ( Spoiler? ) So, for a bit I dipped out and found out that the three blokes from The Last Leg had taken over Channel Four last night.
The Saint isn't very good - the opening is terrible. But it's so daft and it offers some incidental pleasures, because, as it was set in 1997, I could yell excitedly at the use of floppy disks.
Watching Val Kilmer's character in disguise is VERY ENTERTAINING. Although, unfortunately, he can't do an Australian accent. There are fewer wigs and hairstyles from him as the film goes on. Really, I'd say watch Salt, also directed by Phillip Noyce, over this, but it's interesting that he also directed some Revenge episodes. I don't know if it's a case of being drawn towards similar stories or Hollywood just thinking of him.
Elizabeth Shue plays the love interest (what happened to her?) who is just kooky enough. Face-wise, I thought that she's a cross between Alicia Silverstone and Anne Hathaway. But I was also reminded of Lawrence Llewellyn-Bowen's hair by the baddie's son. I must have seen this film on TV or something at some point.

Revenge: The Final Chapter

The picture for this episode on 4OD was so spoilery. Why would you take a picture from a scene in the last third of a finale?

Wednesday night catch-up
May. 14th, 2015 07:54 amIt occurred to me, as I started speculating about the ending of the show, that I should get on with catching up with Revenge in case I get spoiled. I probably won’t because no-one seems to be watching it any more, which is why it’s coming to an end. But, just in case...
Revenge 4.16 Retaliation
It felt like this must have aired in the US after a little break.

Endgame in sight (phew)
May. 5th, 2015 07:50 amThe news that Revenge is definitely finishing at the end of season 4 and that its makers knew it when making the final episode (too lazy to link) is making it easier for me to want to stay with it, because the stuff involving the main players is going somewhere that is going to have to stick now.

Poldark and, less importantly, Revenge
Apr. 27th, 2015 09:45 pmPoldark - episode 8
So this final episode of the first series left me verklempt because of the content, but amused by the Beeb. The show was introduced with an apologetic spoiler (really) that it was going to end on a cliffhanger and an assurance that the show would be back from the continuity announcer. You can trust the continuity announcer more than the final screen, where it can be wishful thinking, but Auntie was tripping all over itself to assure us it would be back. Honestly.
(I’m probably going to buy the DVD the way I’m feeling now.)
