Revenge 4.01 Renaissance
By putting Victoria in a facility for the mentally ill (which is such a sweet piece of revenge) the show has effectively barred the use of some adjectives to describe what went on, adjectives that I probably shouldn’t use in such a cavalier fashion anyway. But, much of this was ridiculous, and I laughed heartily, especially at pretty Christa B. Allen trying to channel Madeline Stowe. I don’t think I was meant to laugh so much.
Emily’s behaviour was off and she hadn’t returned to being Amanda Clarke. Turns out she’s addicted to revenge (and Aiden’s death was the straw on the camel’s back), which is quite audacious as it led to ruminations like ‘am I addicted to this show? Because I should give it up. It should be really easy, I actively like very few characters, Emily is never going to have a HEA until the show gets cancelled and that depends on the writers knowing that beforehand, so there’s no point in joining all of Nolan and Jack’s worry about her.’
I just want to know what happened with David Clarke, except I don’t think we’re going to have elaborate explanations – he worked with a secret organisation that guy was part of to fake his own death (see Victoria’s voiceover, and that, like redressing the manor was the extent of the much mooted shake-up, well, apart from Jack becoming a cop, which was just silly). I shouldn’t expect too much of the explanation how he knew all this in time, and of course, he may not someone could have saved him for mysterious reasons of their own, or how the White Haired Man didn’t kill hip properly, given the show’s previous resolutions. And this is such a retcon, I doubt it’ll make much sense.
Sure, the last seconds where he and Victoria recognised each other, before he chloroformed her, heh, were fun, but I don’t care about the show trying to hide the fact that Daniel is a nasty killer etc etc. Stupid Jack and his stupid face and stupid Emily with poor wee!Amanda’s childhood traumas. I don’t even remember who killed who or who has the right to be most peeved with whom.
If Gotham comes back to the same slot, my preference would be to watch that.
