2016 fannish year meme

FWIW, I would have posted this this morning, but my computer/browser/a certain website would not co-operate. It would still be ridiculously late, though.

Your main fandom(s) of the year: In terms of fic writing, you could make a case for Agents of SHIELD and Harry Potter, and I read a lot of Harry Potter fics, still, but some of them were over a decade old, and I read a lot of MCU, but in both those cases it was because of the size of the fandoms and my being interested in a lot of ships and characters in them. Otherwise, I read in a lot of fandoms. Because Dave aired so many series continually, I watched a lot of Parks and Rec, but was probably more invested in Poldark and Strictly Come Dancing.

Best film you watched this year: Can’t pick between ‘The Revenant’ and ‘Arrival’. I'm glad BAFTA gave the latter so much love.

Best book you read this year: ‘Farthing’ by Jo Walton, written for those who don’t believe it could happen here. (I read it quite early on in 2016.) The murder mystery in a country house was an excellent way in for me into a world where Britain made peace with Hitler…Some of the ideas have remained with me, although I thought the sequel 'Ha'penny' was slightly a case of diminishing returns. I've yet to read the last in the trilogy.

Your favourite album or song to listen to this year: I was a bit slow in picking up Carly Rae Jepsen’s ‘E-MO-TION’ but I loved it, especially Run Away With Me, Gimmie Love and Making the Most of the Night. Also, Open Your Eyes by School of Seven Bells, which was released as a single in 2015, but the album came out in 2016. Oh, and Portishead’s eerie cover of S.O.S.

Your favourite TV show of the year
I probably shouldn’t say Scorpion because I didn’t watch the whole second season, but I loved what I watched. The Night Manager for eye candy? I had quibbles with quite a lot of shows that I watched.

Your best new fandom discovery of the year
...

Your biggest fandom disappointment of the year
The Huntsman: Winter’s War. Thanks for trashing all over Snow White and the Huntsman and letting me know Jessica Chastain, who I think is great, does a worse Scottish accent than Chris Hemsworth! That thing they did in Jason Bourne. That there was no fandom March madness,

Your biggest squee moment of the year
Um, the ballroom scene in War and Peace was EPIC, and I loved the Johnny Karatae TV show episode of Parks and Rec and most of what happened towards of season 4 of Gilmore Girls. I'm probably forgetting something major.

The fandom you haven't tried yet, but want to
I'm tempted to give My Crazy Ex-Girlfriend a whirl

Your biggest fan anticipations for the coming year

Carried over from last year: Sherlock (started airing), La La Land, The Lego Batman Movie.

New: Guardians of the Galaxy 2 – I just want gorgeous planet spanning fun and chaos set to good music. The Wonder Woman movie (please be good!) On TV I’m looking forward to the adaptation of ‘The Cuckoo’s Calling’.

Favourite couples of 2016: Jake/Amy (Brooklyn Nine-Nine); Bruce/Selina (Gotham); May/Coulson (Agents of SHIELD) Lorelai/Luke (Gilmore Girls); Judy Hopps/Nick Wilde (Zootropolis); Walter/Paige (Scorpion); – that’s the couples in new canon for me during the year.

Favourite main character of 2016: Judy Hopps (Zootropolis), otherwise Steve Rogers or Arrival’s Louise.

Favourite other character of 2016: Demelza Poldark nee Carne (Poldark), with apologies to Kira Nerys, Selina Kyle, Amy Santiago, Ben Wyatt, Natasha Romanov…

Favourite team of 2016: Team Scorpion or the crew of the Wayfarer (the long way to a small angry planet.
