Belatedly,
Ghosts 5.5 Carpe Diem
They’re ramping up the poignancy now! If I had a minor quibble, it was that Alison was totally unaware of what the ghosts were going through and was absent as they waited for midnight. But then, her and Mike’s attempt to turn back time a little and have one last night of partying (doomed to fail) was thematically on point, and the viewers knew before they did what the ending would be. (I love the show for always slipping in a Mike POV shot, where it was just him and Alison line dancing.)
I don’t think I ever bought Robin’s ‘maffs’ because it seemed like moving on was always after some emotional catharsis, but I speculated if it were to happen, it’d be Humphrey or the plague victims, the most marginal characters, both of which were confirmed didn’t happen. Although every ghost went on to have their own journey, except perhaps Pat and Kitty (Atomic Kitty!!!) it was the Captain, for whom we now have a name, whose death story was told. Obviously, it was about making stiff upper lips tremble, but I wondered if they’d always had this death story in mind, specifically because his honours were upside down (or if that had been a retconned mistake?) So, we now know his first name is James, and he too died an ignominious death. And gulp, we now know more or less how they all died.
I chuckled a lot throughout.

And I hope that the soldiers surrounding them were sympathetic, because of course soldiers have seen lots of deaths and know how to deal with them. I like to think they took care of Havers afterwards and pretended he was 'best friends' with the Captain.
