Belatedly,

Ghosts 5.5 Carpe Diem

They’re ramping up the poignancy now! If I had a minor quibble, it was that Alison was totally unaware of what the ghosts were going through and was absent as they waited for midnight. But then, her and Mike’s attempt to turn back time a little and have one last night of partying (doomed to fail) was thematically on point, and the viewers knew before they did what the ending would be. (I love the show for always slipping in a Mike POV shot, where it was just him and Alison line dancing.)

I don’t think I ever bought Robin’s ‘maffs’ because it seemed like moving on was always after some emotional catharsis, but I speculated if it were to happen, it’d be Humphrey or the plague victims, the most marginal characters, both of which were confirmed didn’t happen. Although every ghost went on to have their own journey, except perhaps Pat and Kitty (Atomic Kitty!!!) it was the Captain, for whom we now have a name, whose death story was told. Obviously, it was about making stiff upper lips tremble, but I wondered if they’d always had this death story in mind, specifically because his honours were upside down (or if that had been a retconned mistake?) So, we now know his first name is James, and he too died an ignominious death. And gulp, we now know more or less how they all died.

I chuckled a lot throughout.

I thought it was sweet that the Captain basically died in the arms of his beloved Havers, who told him, 'I know' so hopefully they both felt the same way about each other 💕 And his swagger stick was Havers' all along.

And I hope that the soldiers surrounding them were sympathetic, because of course soldiers have seen lots of deaths and know how to deal with them. I like to think they took care of Havers afterwards and pretended he was 'best friends' with the Captain.

Yes, as Captain James dies, Havers presses his stick into his hands and he dies holding it. And of course it stays with him forever... 🥺

I expect they planned his death from the start, I feel like they'd have to plan each ghost's death and work backwards or it would be too vague. The writers are too clever to leave it vague.

Can't wait for the Christmas episode now, it's exciting!

I think they are clever writers aren't they. Not sloppy like some writers who don't seem to have an overall plan for their show.

I've just seen your Major Kira picture, I did love Deep Space 9.

Yes, I think it is a good idea to move on because the quality of shows can decline if they drag on too long.

DS9 is my favourite Star Trek series. I'm not a dedicated fan of Star Trek but DS9 was a good one. I particularly liked the relationship between Julian and Miles- they couldn't stand each other when they first met, but by the end of the series they couldn't do anything without each other!😅 Great writing.

I also loved Babylon 5, also set on a space station, did you watch that?

Oh don't worry, I know people are busy 😊

Yes I will watch Star Trek if it's on but I won't rush to watch new series or whatever. There are so many new series of Star Trek now, I can't keep up with them all 😣

Babylon 5 is well worth watching if you get the chance. Amazing world-building and plot arcs in that show. I may have watched one episode of Farscape once, I should watch it from the start to get the full effect shouldn't I...Farscape is the one that was based on Blake's 7 from the 1970s, I read, do you know if that's true?

I don't generally get into long running series now anyway as real life is pretty complicated 😣 My brain can't hold all the details as well as real life details too.

I think the first series of Babylon 5 is a bit confusing but please stick with it and you will be rewarded.

Ah maybe that was it about Farscape/Blake's 7. So many shows are based on other shows, it's all hard to work out and probably doesn't really matter does it 😋
