I had planned to post about Ghosts and The West Wing yesterday, and then get on with watching The West Wing last night, but then I realised the Strictly launch show was on, and I had no self-imposed deadline for tidying up my ramblings about The West Wing. As Strictly is going to take over my Saturday nights for the foreseeable, I’m also goin to have to rethink when I choose to be my new The West Wing slot.

The Hobbit has been cropping up a lot in my life recently, including this SNL Hobbit Office sketch. The blend of Middle Earth and the original The Office made me laugh, most of all Gollum as Gareth.

GHOSTS IS BACK!
I didn’t know it was back until I turned to the Radio Times page for Monday and lo and behold, series 3 was airing that night!!!
And in between, I learned via YouTube that there’s an American remake now. As far as I can tell, they’ve mostly found younger, prettier actors and Robin is a Viking called Thor, but there are Native American characters. As for whether it’ll be the new The Office or the new every other British sitcom that’s gone over the pond… I hope the Ghosts team were well remunerated, at least.

First, the BBC has announced that Anton will be replacing Bruno as a judge for the next series of Strictly because of travel issues, which makes sense. I look forward to inflated marks and extra amusement when Anton has to judge Latin dances. And a drip feed of news about the show for the rest of the summer.

Gawping at the (fictional) rich and posh
I should admit that I’ve started taking advantage of the Beeb repeating ‘To The Manor Born’ (it first aired around the time I was born, but it still stands up.) It made me laugh a fair bit, though not as much as the recorded audience, and even though Audrey drips of entitlement and privilege, Penelope Keith is peerless as her. I wonder if she was an influence on Julian Fellowes vis a vis Lady Mary although this type is not uncommon. Maybe it’s her relationship with Marjory that makes me think that, ( mild spoilers for a decades old sitcom )
I felt obliged to share that, because I’ve also started watching ‘The Pursuit of Love’ (both of these via iPlayer at my own pace, so I’m already behind,) I’ve never read Mitford, and I have some complicated feelings about my and TV’s fascination with the English upper class. But it is a good show, ( proper spoilers for a current adaptation of a decades-old novel )

And after, and after (Scorpion. Teen. Paige Dineen/Walter O’Brien
Summary: The rest of the mayonnaise date. Gratuitous 4.4 ‘Nuke Kids on the Block’ coda. 720 words.) I’d written the first draft the day after watching the episode in question. I rewatched the final scene of the episode before redrafting/editing it. (I have written season 3 inspired fic, but they’re in various stages of needing work/polish/me to officially give up on them.) I think it weaves recurring motifs of mine with stuff from the episode.

The Masked Singer
( Spoilers for the first two episodes. )
Don’t worry, although I will watch all the madness, bad puns and fake enthusiasm that ensues, I probably won’t post much if at all (well, maybe to crow if I guessed rightly) now that I’ve seen all the costumes for the first time. I’m in the camp that’s glad they found a way to bring it back.
