As with last year, and for the same Reasons, sadly, I watched all the songs in the Eurovision final this year and voted. Then I went to bed and found out who’d won in the morning. (I meant to post this yeserday.)

Apparently there’s going to be another theme week to celebrate the show being 20. It’s going to be ‘icon week’, whatever that means (fights over who gets to be Madonna? JoJo has apparently already nabbed Beyonce for the pros' routine.) At least it’s not TV theme songs 2. ( Charlestons, salsas, quicksteps and other styles of dance )

First of all, I was saddened to hear of Maggie Smith’s passing. I don’t know when she acquired national treasure status, but she had, hadn’t she? I was aware of her growing up (although let’s be honest, more because of Sister Act than what she won awards for) and then she had this extraordinary run of being in these huge TV shows and films. I was rewatching Gosford Park recently, from which she and Julian Fellowes transferred to Downton Abbey, and then there’s Harry Potter. She always exuded such sharp intelligence as a performer. If you haven’t seen ‘Nothing Like A Dame’, it’s well worth watching, she, Judi Dench, Eileen Atkins and Joan Plowright talk about their careers and a little of everything in it.

I only just learned that the British rights to air the Oscars had returned to free to air on Saturday, I think. The last time I was invested enough to stay up and watch was The Return of The King days (it may even have been on Sky then, in that brief time I had access to it.) As I’m not in my twenties and had work the next day, I went to bed, got an idea of the winners over the next day (but didn’t go clicking beyond headlines) and caught up with the coverage in my own time.
