shallowness: bright flowers in vase against green background (flowers that remind me of Layla)
As I haven’t been watching any TV that I’d post about (I will get around to it, and with the bank holiday, this week will be lighter), I reposted a fic yesterday!

Sweet (I could be your favorite girl), The O.C. PG. 368 words. Kaitlin/Spencer. Summary: Over the years, she’s been getting better and better at having things her own way. Fluff. Established relationship. Future fic. (First posted in April 2007.

I only lightly edited it, although I wanted to do something about the first two paragraphs and all the uses of ‘nibbling’, but it would have been too much. Wow, that was only a month after I last reposted a fic.

Apparently The Wheel of Time is cancelled (is it my fault for not getting around to watch the third season yet?) :( In possibly good news, I saw that pictures from Zootopia 2 were released. Admittedly, sequels don’t have a great record (especially of original properties), but I am excited about more adventures with Judy and Nick and exploring the world further. It will all come down to the script. While I get it that they won’t be developing the ship, and that's fine, that's what fic is for, I don’t want to see any love interests for either.

Enough developments to keep me hooked, and by switching from character to character, you moved on to something you’d find more engaging (than blokes angsting in the dark) quickly enough.

The Wheel of Time - 2.1 A Taste of Solitude

I always intended to get back to The Wheel of Time and then sort of decided that I would once I’d finished getting through The Rings of Power. I suspect I won’t be done by the time the third series arrives. Anyway, I still haven’t read the books, and haven’t been much spoiled.

Three ships

Jupiter Jones/Caine Wise (Jupiter Ascending) because I just read a fic about how Jupiter is overcome by his hotness, her new space werewolf fetish and her feelings about him. Cormoran Strike/Robin Ellacott (the Cormoran Strike mysteries) because I read them quite recently, so they’re still on my mind. Zoe Hart/Wade Kinsella (Hart of Dixie) even though at this point in my watching Expandseason 3 )

First ever ship

Lynda Day/Spike Thompson (Press Gang) This may not be strictly accurate, there were probably bookships before.

Last song

‘See, Know’ by Julianna Barwick, from ‘Will’ although it’s more of a track than a song.

Last film

Cinema: Anatomy of a Fall, which I thought was good, although I’m not raving about it like critics. Streaming: The Last Five Years, Anna Kendrick in a musical, which is, OF COURSE, set in New York, aggressively so because shooting on location is one of the big reasons to adapt it into a movie.

Currently reading

Fanfic (see above). Otherwise, I’ve just started a book (non-fiction, a gift so I’m not going to name it.) I’m planning to read a chapter in between fiction, but I haven’t started the next one yet. I just finished ‘Dark Orbit’ by Caroline Ives Gilman, sci-fi, with A LOT going on in it.

Currently watching

It Takes Two and Strictly Come Dancing live or as live as I can, The Wheel of Time (my take on the last ep I watched ought to have been this post), Cardiac Arrest and Hart of Dixie. I’m also rewatching The West Wing. Some quiz shows and panel shows that I generally don’t discuss here.

I have been to the cinema again! (It’s still a bit of a novelty.) I went to see The Creator by Gareth Edwards, who I know from Monsters, which I love, and this shares the CGI meets real locations DNA of that film, although it’s not as good. (The movie, I mean, the FX are great.) It kind of worked for me emotionally, eventually, but the more you think about it, the more it falls apart. Even while watching it, I was side-eyeing the hero and the male POV, quibbling about scientific parameters, finding where it eventually landed with its ‘goodies’ and baddies’ snarkworthy. Much has been made of it being original (i.e. not an adaptation or part of a franchise), but there’s a long list of clear influences. The acting is good – John David Washington sounding like his father, Gemma ‘Humans was an audition’ Chan, Allison Janney! Young Madeline Yuna Voyles is terrific. I was glad I experienced it on the big screen, though.
