2.9 Ye Who Enter Here

I thought the episode was pretty good, well, once after we got over the dream sequence, which was obviously a dream sequence because of the dress Skye wore and it went on too long, and having May and Coulson play parental stand-ins wasn’t even a new thing.

But the rest of it was pretty good, with lots of the drama keeping me quiet and holding my attention – especially the interaction between the ladies – Bobbi very humbly coming up with ‘be honest’ advice to Jemma and then ignoring it WRT Hunter; May IS Skye’s SO; Skye believes Rayna (and underestimated her, because of course she would do anything to get her hands on the deviner and rat you out to Ward and HYDRA). And the state of FitzSimmons. Don’t make Simmons cry, show! (Or do.) They’re so broken. And it’s all very well dangling Simmons/Tripp again, but the show should have been more consistent on that.

The action was excellent – although because I missed the episode that introduced Agent 33, I was a little bit at the same stage as the characters who were going ‘Who is that with May’s face and the weird voice?’. Good call on giving Ming-na Wen even more action, show. She’s pretty incredible.

And if someone out of the 900-hundred strong plus extras audeince that Coulson and Skye were giving the presentation on the city to had to go (with the disclaimer that we didn’t see his body and he seemed more possessed by alien mojo than destroyed, so he may be back) I am fine with it being Mac, because his negativity about aliens and in general was doing little for me. Not that waiting for the shoe to drop WRT Hunter/Bobbi is unreasonable. The best thing about him was how he was around Fitz, but being sniffy to Simmons balanced that out for me. (Simmons = The Kaylee.)

The humour wasn’t always spot on for me. Sam and Billy creaked as much as they sparked. And Coulson’s hat thing at the beginning of the scene where He Is Not Fury, Okay, So The Whole Keeping SHIELD Going Thing Is Fine just reminded me of how the show randomly remembers its meant to be in the Jossverse depending on the writer.

Still, it left me wanting more of the story as soon as possible, which is such a step up.

AND it seems like the next episode will be on earlier so that people can then switch on to BBC1 to watch Avengers Assemble (aka Natasha and her boys) on Boxing Day. I don't think I'll be able to wrangle family members to yield to your masterplan, Marvel/Disney, sadly.
