Some Christmas traditions
Dec. 26th, 2019 10:35 amMerry Christmas, all. (In the spirit of discosure: of course Christmas is a mixture of things. I was a bit grumpy having woken up to have to do family logistics - still unresolved - today, some friends of mine are having tough times that put my issues into perspective.)
Yesterday, I watched the Strictly Christmas Special - about the only show amid the ‘festive offecting’ that is appointment TV for me, and it didn’t leave me enraged, so that’s good.

I posted a ficlet! A Practical Solution (Sky High, Warren/Layla, future fic). It’s wintery, if not Christmassy fluff. First drafted after I saw the prompt, polished and posted on Sunday (yesterday on AO3). I may have more to say about this in my annual fic round-up, but this means I’ve posted something every month of this year.
I caught the first hour or so of the Star Trek reboot movie on telly, and ( similarities between the film and the Star Trek Discovery pilot )
Now this is where my thoughts about episode 2 of Star Trek: Discovery should be, but it’s unavailable for catch-up on All 4. I’m irked, and I’m going to be irked every time they advertise it on E4 etc now. If you want people to watch a show (when you’ve been changing the timeslot) and aren’t making it available online even for a week as I’m used to with some American shows, good luck with the viewing figures. I presume it’s a rights thing, but it’s a bit useless.

Yesterday's TV
Dec. 16th, 2019 07:03 pmI probably say this every year, but it’s when there’s no It Takes Two to ‘dissect’ the weekend’s Strictly that it sinks in.
Star Trek Discovery had made it to UK free-to-air TV. So, I gave it a whirl. ( 1.01 )
I then got sucked into watching Agatha and the Curse of Ishtar, which purports to be (but not really) how Agatha Christie went to Iraq and met her second husband. While solving a murder or two.
( This was on Channel 5 )

Strictly finals
Dec. 15th, 2019 06:56 pm( Read more... ) And now I won’t have my glitzy Saturday night distraction. Also, the Strictly Christmas special is genuinely the TV show I’m most looking forward to.

I went to see Knives Out last night. It’s entertaining enough, most of all if you have a fondness for murder mysteries that ‘play fair’, though it’s a tad self-indulgent. It’s no The Brothers Bloom (my highwater mark for Rian Johnson films; I didn’t she a Joseph Gordon Levitt cameo). Chris Evans is having a ball, as you’re primed to expect from the trailers, but there was one chunky jumper not even he could save. He looked fine in the rest of his outfits. Also, the Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman fangirl in me was delighted by K Callen’s presence.

Finally – I expected this at the start of the year, and then read somewhere that it was delayed to get the SFX right. (They looked all right to me now!

Giri/Haji double-bill
Nov. 16th, 2019 06:02 pmThings I have discovered: Thursday 9pm is a good slot for me to watch Giri/Haji given how I wasn’t in the mood to catch up on it at various other times during the week. I finally caught up on Thursday evening, but there’s so much going on that a double-bill on the same night is too much. (I’m so not a binger of TV.)
So, Giri/Haji ep 4 (via catch-up)
