If I had a Twitter account, it would be filled with deep comments like ‘I don’t want to see the movie with Will Smith and Margot Robbie in it, thanks, but I would see the film where Robbie co-starred with Rebel Wilson in a heartbeat.’

The Mentalist

7.3 Orange Blossom Ice Cream

That was a gorgeous hotel that Jane and Lisbon got to go to, mainly because Abbott is a huge shipper. Cue Lisbon rolling her eyes around Erica, being the one to give away the new relationship. Cue Erica needling and certainly winning the first round of getting Lisbon upset that Jane hadn’t told her about her. Because even if Lisbon knew Erica dropped the bombshell intentionally, it was an issue that Jane hadn’t said beforehand when they were working together. Ah well, he recognised that and apologised.

And okay, while him using Mashburn to stop the line of questioning that went Lorelai’s way, and both of them were shadows of Jane/Lisbon for Lisbon and Jane to varying degrees, Red John didn’t sic Mashburn on Lisbnon, which makes a huge difference. And he’s not dead.

Anyway, the set dressers had fun, but the windows in the bad guy’s window were familiar.

I loved Jane’s body language and how he used the book as a shield for his mouth, almost, after Erica and he escaped.

The final fight between Lisbon and Jane seemed off based on what had come before, and Erica’s reading of what we’ve seen develop between them was so off that it was satisfying to see Lisbon point the gun at Erica. Who was far too sensible to try to run and get injured. Which she would have.

I like the evident partnership plenty, but then we got the romantic gesture too! (Still, there may be fic. Ahem.)

I also really liked Lisbon’s dresses and sandals, the whole casual styling in BEIRUT (the caps lock is an attempt to capture what the music was doing). Especially in contrast with Jane dressing like Jane always does. And Ericas metallic body-con style.

I am not sure about some of the decisions made in the office on this case, really. It felt like Lisbon and Jane might have been in more danger in a less caperish episode because of them. I know the thrust of the episode was, after all, about showing the trust between Teresa and Patrick (using the first names advisedly) and justice being done RE Erica. And Jane (plus Lisbon and in a team) outwitting her.

The way things are developing with Vega are reassuring me. There may still be a triangle brewing – Wiley has a crush, certainly, but they are also making a case for Vega’s true love being cars, or rather that she’s a bit of a thrill seeker and action junkie. She associates/d Cho with that, so even if there’s attraction there, that’s part of it. And Cho pointed out that he can’t trust her (although how many times has Jane lied to him? Or Lisbon, for that matter? Or Abbott?)

To go back to the beginning, the sequence where the baddie tested Jane, Jane responded by negotiating aggressively and then Lisbon was hauled in worked really well. The rest of the actual plot, not so much, but I was enjoying the Jane-Lisbon(-Erica) byplay so much that I didn’t care.
