The Good Wife 6.08 Red Zone
I liked the balance of a case for Alicia, the politics thing and Cary’s case and Kalinda. Good to see her not do what Bishop demanded at the end, really. Just for her own sake; it’s horrible to see her diminished and frightened because of Bishop.
I liked how things came to a head between her and Cary and the ramifications in this episode and longer term. Diane was so right, but he wasn’t ready to hear it – and she and Alicia are being loyal to him here. The scene where Alicia gave him advice was a peach.
Gloria Steinem in Alicia’s head got replaced this week. I enjoyed the continued Professionals versus Amateur Hour (even if it ended up on a cynical note) – and so Castro’s out of the race (but not the story, surely). I enjoyed the step back and look at Alicia’s character and decisions. So, she continues to be drinking buddies with Finn.
Poor Grace, waking up to non!Google alerts about your mum.
The case was more interesting, with the big question of justice, Alicia’s motivations and tactics, and the primacy of the girl’s wish to not have to deal with her rapist in a hostile environment all complicating things. Alicia was blatantly intervening via the phone, but she had all kinds of right on her side – the attitude of the rapist and then of the officer, who was going on about the victim's emotionality, were dismaying, and ugh, the wall. Yeah, it’s grabbed from the headlines stuff, campus rape, but it was used well. Alicia’s grandstanding by taking them to court was checked by Canning (well played!! Cue patented Alicia eye-rolling in court) and then she outmanoeuvred him with five minutes of Kalinda’s time and the wall. Ugh, the wall.
So, I thought that was well handled, and it’ll be interesting to see where things go next with Bishop (the absolute silence when the panel of people heard about Cary’s legal troubles was telling). Will Alicia really not take on cases for a bit? We haven’t seen Jackie yet this season – is the actress all right? To me, the obvious thing would be to see her reaction to Ramona or maybe in the Zach situation, but anyway, we haven’t seen her yet.
