Caught up with this double-bill (for that’s what it was rather than a feature-length episode, even if the Freak of the Week became a Freak of the Fortnight). The show is no longer likely to be sponsored by a Marvel movie, with a change in sponsorship.
The two main things going on were Jim (and Harvey) being inept at detecting and the operatic betrayals of the Family, neither of which really engage me, for all that Fish, Butch, Falcone and Maroni had their moments, and Lisa’s death was horrid.
I could have watched the episode that aired Monday night straight after (and who knows, it might have involved BRUCE and MOAR SELINA) but chose not to. Furthermore, the other Batman TV show (Person of Interest) which I'm more invested in is back. Eh, if I do get back into sync with watching Gotham live, I might keep watching it.
As to what happened, well Jim was an Arkham Asylum guard for two seconds then bluffed his way out of it.
I thought the introduction of Dr Leslie was clumsy – what are we to make of her, anyway? Other than the obvious – that she’d make a better detective than Jim. But why is she working at Arkham? I can’t just read her as Jim’s love interest – there has to be more. I was left making jokes about Inara Serra and the power of Ryan Atwood in a white vest.
I feel short-changed on Selina time and her friendship with Ivy. But she’s lucky that nobody (Jim, Barbara, Renee...) is staying at their home in Gotham. Just the right nasty edge to Ivy on the phone.
I was surprised by how pleased I was to see Harvey Bullock, but he was entertaining. Even if his ‘detecting’ came out of the Patrick Jane playbook – ‘Who do you think did it? Let’s go after them!’
The object of Nygma’s affections is still right about how creepy he is. And he still doesn’t work for me, whereas the Penguin does, apart from when Maroni brought that what he blurted out after the electrocution meant nothing.
We learned a little more about Jim and Barbara, but basically I’d only be interested in the Keanes in relation to the Waynes.
