shallowness: Kira in civvies looking straight ahead (Community Shirley disbelieving laughter)
[personal profile] shallowness
Parks and Rec 4.1 I’m Leslie Knope

So I’d been slighty worried I’d been building the show up a leetle too much after the wonderful season 3, but I was soon giggling – thank you, Ron Swanson and this deluded bunch of daft people. (Chris’s hair is the weirdest post hiatus, although the beard was the intentional hair joke). But pretty much everything Ron Swanson said! I was just wondering what Leslie campaigning and, presumably winning, will mean for the group dynamics when April swung Andy a job as Leslie’s assistant. The automatic ‘what could possibly go wrong?’ was tempered by ‘and will they even notice?’

Although Ron, in his own way, being there for Leslie – and I really like that the Leslie-Ann friendship and the Leslie-Ron friendship are there for balance – was sweet, BEN! A pastry in the shape of her initial! That flies into one of the most adorable gifts ever list. There was plenty of fodder for fic in this episode. The break-up speech was meltworthy.

Enter Tammy One, leaving me looking forward to the audit, because Patricia Clarkson killed her first scene on the show, and Tammy One managed April. That’s impressive. (See how I didn’t mention what Ann had to deal with?)

Dave is continuing with BBC Four’s double-bills, thankfully.

4.2 Ron and Tammys

I thought the Battle Royale: Budgetary Thunderdome over the budget might be about Leslie/Ben, but no.

Never mind, there was so much to love in this episode: that whole bit where Tom was talking to camera about him and Ben was there, Ben seeing Tom and Jean-Ralphio’s tweenage fantasy clubhouse...

And that was very nicely intercut with Team Rescue Ron going through his ‘paperwork’ and finding out the disturbing backstory of Tammy One.

Ann and Chris were amusing enough, but their bit didn’t have the emotional heft of Tom using Ben’s need for friendship and the awful fascination of Tammy One. I mean, there was a bit of possible meta about the talent – I’d be interested to know how scripted Leslie’s drunk in the office bit and Ben’s commenting on the air hangar bit were – and in Ann telling the mockumentary camera and, presumably, crew, that there was no one else there except her when Chris was talking to an audience. !?!?

Strictly speaking, One Week Later worked for Ron and whatever the operation was called by the end, but not the other two strands, but we got Tammy Two !!! and Mother Tammy !!! And it was so wrong to see the clean-shaven Ron Swanson.

Basically, I was giggling through most of it.
