Writing, films and being an idiot
Apr. 13th, 2015 08:20 amI posted a fic Not alone, alive yesterday. It’s an Into the Woods fic, based on the movie adaptation, about Cinderella and the people she ends up with at the end of the film, dealing with what happened and what comes next. I started writing it straight after seeing the film, the idea of these magical powers some of the characters had fascinated me and the fic is also about my other takeaways from it. What delayed posting was that time I had to do without my USB stick which happened during the editing process. That stopped the momentum dead and then I could never get the time to post it, until yesterday. Oh, and in the meantime I've seen the more trad Cinderella film.
I've had to edit the title I typed in at fanfiction.net. This is the second fic where I’ve been having trouble with the titles.
I also finished this month’s Total Film yesterday (the one with Mad Max on the cover). Two of its regular features, to be found towards the end, are ‘Is it just me?’ and '60-second Screenplay'. In the first, a writer takes a ‘controversial’ stance on something to do with films. Usually, despite the feature, your immediate yes/no response to the question in the title is right. I usually love the one page summary to bits, which rips into the biggest film of the last month, regardless of how much I love the film.
This month's Is It Just Me? was arguing that Bring It On should be considered a teen classic. Duh, yes! says this thirtysomething. My only quibble is with the ending, which makes sense for the storyiline, but isn’t satisfying structurally. Meanwhile Jupite Ascending got the 60-second screenplay treatment, which was obviously written by a bloke who did not get it. The only thing the piece was on point about was the audience reaction to Sean Bean’s presence. Otherwise, I expect something to appear in fifteen years or more in the equivalent of Is It Just Me? where a writer asks something like ‘was Jupiter Ascending a misunderstood piece of joy?’ or ‘was Jupiter Ascending a film for the fangirl’s inner fourteen year old and not the usual quadrant?’
Oh yes, and I’ve just discovered that I’ve lost/deleted a pile of links for Pitch Perfect fics that I wanted to read. Frustrating.
My thoughts about last night’s Poldark will follow at some point.
