I'm glad to see a post about Downton. I'm lucky to see anything about it on my reading circle.
There might be an upswing when it airs in the US, but the Grand Old Days of stately homes Downton fan enthusiasm have gone.
I loved his bravery in admitting the first day hadnât gone well
Me too! Not everyone would say that in front of a group of people.
how did he go from laughingstock to someone charismatic enough to keep the kids' attention?
He was true to himself! Magic!? Handwaving. Like you, I thought Daisy might have to step in - and I agree she'd be a total tyrant.
It was typical Downton pacing. Molesley blossoming as a teacher could have legitimately developed over a couple of episodes, but they had to rush it through in a few scenes while they've been stringing out other plots ad infinitum.
Ah well, it must have given actual teachers a laugh.
I hope, too, that we get as little as possible of Mary in the Christmas special, although I expect we'll have a pregnancy announcement or something to emphasise that she is Downton's hope of surival into the future.
Still, it was obvious that they knew that Edith's unfinished business would matter to the viewers.
I don't think Edith will entirely give up the magazine - Bertie saw how important it was to her and I would hope she would want to keep it. She has a competent editor whom she likes (unless if they decide to pair her off with Tom) so the balance might change.
