shallowness: Catwoman looking at the Batsign in the Gotham City night sky (Catwoman watching Batverse films)
[personal profile] shallowness
Gotham 2.8 Tonight’s the Night

The previouslies made me hope Ron Rifkin will appear onscreen with other characters eventually, and suspect (rightly) that there’d be no Selina, so my emotional investment in the following events decreased drastically.

After all the teasing, is Barbara going to do something in this episode? Yes, but sadly it’s messing with Jim and Lee’s heads as a distraction for Mr Mayor and his narrow plan. I’m with Tabby that Galavan should get a move on.

Easy snark target, but of course Barbara walked down the dream aisle alone – due to the patricide.

Lee’s assessment of Jim running into the abyss felt apt, apter than Barbara’s analysis, which is more about wanting to make him like her. The whole wedding thing made me realise that I hadn’t been paying much attention to Jim/Barbara by the end of the last season. For instance, how much interaction has Babs had with Oswald? Although I am sure Barbara has conveniently forgotten all the running to Montoya when she was so in love with Jim.

This week, despite insubordination to back Jim’s idiocy up, Harvey was willing to investigate stuff. (In fairness, his partner’s abduction was one thing that would motivate him.) That Captain Marshal Law then called what he brought ‘thin’ given what the GCPD’s detectives usually come up with was funny.

Ed going out to the country and continuing to ratchet up the victims was dull. However, his sewing Penguin up makes sense.

The most affecting plotline was Bruce’s anguished choice. Galavan had, of course, underestimated/forgotten about Alfred. Also, although I appreciated that they were foisting an adult decision on young Bruce, would a minor be able to sell shares like that? Even on this show?

So, while protecting Galavan’s identity, Barbara did help Jim bring him down by giving him the mayor, but the stakes (except for Jim/Lee, because is he really worth this much psychotic ex-girlfriend and never being attended to hassle?) were quite low, as Jim isn’t going to go much darker, and he couldn’t even, er, shoot Barbara in the shoulder and disarm the knife? Nope. And did she die after falling down, down, down...? Of course not, and so it continues to be dragged out, although I would like to see her move on from being Galavan’s puppet (Jim was right about that).
