shallowness: Jadzia smiling eyes closed text reads 'Hee!' (DS9 Jadzia is amused)
[personal profile] shallowness
Brooklyn Nine-Nine 4.9 The Overmining

I only missed the one episode, as it turned out. After many episodes without him, the hapless Captain CJ was back to horrify Jake and Holt with his idiocy. Nice that they referenced the father-son stuff between the latter two and Jake’s impact on Holt – and that Holt did find a way to get rid of CJ ultimately, thus returning the mildly depressed 99ers to their proper habitat – having proved that Jake, Holt, Rosa and Charles are all good cops.

Good use of Gina, again, in the management of Terry, and Amy was especially Amyish. Weird and funny.

But the trailer for the next episode of Agents of SHIELD just makes me want them to get all this out of their system soon.

I then caught up with Suits 6.12 The Painting

Obviously, Harvey’s family stuff must have had more resonance for long-term viewers – I wasn’t entirely clear how old he was when his mother did that to him, but able to grasp that it was young enough for it to be awful and damaging. I felt that the reunions might have been richer if they’d been the entire focus of this episode - so we could have Harvey him interact with ‘the kids’ (I didn’t catch their genders and numbers, so I don’t want to say nieces or nephews) and Katie. I say that partly for shallow reasons, Macht has a sweet smile, why not give him scenes with tots?

In terms of life choices, I think he should have had Donna there for the funeral as a friend/dampening influence, but I suppose he wasn’t in that headspace.

I’m not putting down the scenes back at the firm, which showed what Harvey meant to his work family and that Louis could forgive him easily – for a lesser offence!

It’s very much about da boys though, Rachel’s big career moment – getting offered the post of associate – didn’t make it to the previouslies. And I got a bit narked at Do-gooder Mike for not telling his future wife that he’d been offered a new job and taken it. Not telling her he’d got sacked, fine. But he could have texted her before getting on his bike. And as I presume she’s going to be earning more from now on in, (well, until his inevitable return to The Firm) he might want to discuss using the chequebook. He’d better hope Marissa quickly learns not to promise such help to her clients again.

So, at the moment I’m sucked in, but I might not always be, e.g. does Mike get a big dramatic speech in every episode?
