Love, Lies and Records - Episode 3
Chocful episode/day. As we raced through Lucy being missing and Kate and Rob using police resources to track her thirteen year old self down, and find a kid making bad decisions because of social media angst and a cry for attention, it occurred to me that many shows could make a whole episode of that, not cram it before the titles.
Yes, Rob’s name has finally sunk in.
Kate was wearing an adorable little cardigan as she faced revenge porn, again failed to tell Rob about the cheating, suspected there was a sham marriage thing going on (oh, blondie, don’t you know about free movement?) and took a moment to remember young, tragic Jenny. And then she got her promotion back, because, for her boss, blackmail plus staff discontent was worse than teh sex in teh workplace. (Surely make a note to hold the Christmas party elsewhere.)
She was a wee bit unsympathetic to Rick, who had been suspended, and who spent the whole episode looking like he would hang the moon out for her/check if Rob’s details were on file, which felt like a big ask. I know, she was practically having a panic attack all day on very little sleep, but, still. And there was a bit of Kate trying to make a thing of Rob/His Ex to make herself feel better. Meanwhile, Rob was trying to do the right thing, while not doing so adoringly, and dealing with a murder investigation that might lead to a promotion.
And then, just as I’d assumed the blackmail photos of Kate and Rick were from the sham marriage gang (and there was so much material of flirty body language), we saw Judy, missing the ‘blackmail = a crime’ strong hint from her boss (who hadn’t been forensic enough in his questioning of What Judy Did because it’s all about Kate) or more likely reacting to Kate’s ill-tempered, but understandable outbursts, sending Rob an USB with guess what on it.
Whew. Also, there was one scene where Ashley Jensen’s eyes were Human synth levels of blue until she moved, which fascinated me.
