(spoilers for ITT's Monday to Wednesday’s episodes)
As I said in response to
helsinkibaby, I wasn’t ecstatic to hear that the judges’ choice for Debbie and Giovanni was the salsa either. It was all about the lifts, and I’m less enthused about them than the show. On Tuesday, we learned that Gemma and Aljiaz will be reprising the paso. To be honest, I think they could have got them all to reprise their pasos, which would have meant a straight up comparison, and they were all good, with potential for improvement. But then there was the pasadoblethon, but I don’t think the audience took in any of that. And I can’t say I’m dead enthused about Alexandra and Gorka reprising their American Smooth.
Back to Monday, I was intrigued about who Giovanni was shading/pointing out hadn’t been sticking to the rules. My guess is he was talking about Gorka and Alexandra being out of hold a lot in their VW. I think the valid general point that pros and viewers share is if a judge/the judges are going to be strict about the rules, they have to apply it equally. As it is, the pros are going to chuck them in for wow moments or to express the music because as well as garnering votes, they might not get penalised by the judges.
I am also intrigued, but have no names, about who Darcey was shading when she talked about pros skiving group dances. (I think we all know who was top of Shirley’s naughty list with the interrupting.)
Tuesday gave us the showdance music – Debbie’s will be all ballroom and lifts and emoting YAY! Alexandra’s will be showbiz (so they ain’t touching their quickstep?), Katya has a fun blankish page, and Aljiaz said he’s going for a routine that reprises all their best bits, which I think is wise given that he’s got the weakest dancer, which is not to put a downer on Gemma. As the one with the least dance training, she’s the one who should win if we were going for the purest journey. But weaving together moves she already has in her body should help. (Wednesday’s warm-up footage backs up that spec from Tuesday.)
So pleased they’re all going to dance all their routines, as cutting someone always feels way harsh after all their effort. Tess gave away that they’re doing their personal choices last.
