shallownessBecause I need to start posting these, or it'll be 2018 before I turn around. Fanfiction and fanvid recs from the following fandoms: 10 Things I Hate About You, Brooklyn Nine-Nine; DCU; Disney princesses; Fairy Tales (Rapunzel) and Galaxy Quest.
10 Things I Hate About You
And All The Roads Are Blinding: moemachina (Kat/Patrick, teen, long)
Kat and Patrick break up, grow up, reconnect through social media. There’s this lovely nostalgia, and they’re so them that it’s rather wonderful.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine
Think Once, Think Twice: Fahye (post season 1, Amy/Jake, M)
What a brilliant fic. It takes the tropey goodness of the got-married-in-Vegas set-up and adds an Amy and Jake twist - of course they'd make a bet and not recognise their feelings or rather refuse to. The characterisation and tone are so good. I loved Amy's inner voice, but also everyone else's voices. Her long-running insecurities about how to do life, the effect of Jake's time undercover and how what's going on between them feeds into their working out who they want to be add depth to a very funny fic. And one that was just so well written that it was a pleasure to read on many levels.
DCU
BvS/Wonder Woman (trailer)
Holding out for a Hero: chaila (Diana Prince = Wonder Woman)
SO GOOD (especially given the limited footage). We got our hero, and this is a grand celebration of her. I loved the sweep of it and the details.
Disney princesses
A League of their Own: Beatrice_otter, (gen, Superhero AU)
An enjoyable AU and read. All the twists to their stories to make them superheroes (heroines?) were very clever. Worth looking at the artwork that inspired the story.
Fairy Tales – Rapunzel
Out Flew the Web and Floated Wide: Lady Sarai (Prince/Rapunzel)
This is gorgeous. I like how the story unfolded. Told from the Prince’s perspective, his characterisation and backstory add real richness to it.
Galaxy Quest
May Fortune Favor the Foolish: actiaslunaris (gen, ensemble)
This fanvid reinterprets the film in a more dramatic, serious way and is very effective at it, especially for the character of Jason.
Expect more recs in small batches over the rest of the month.
