Not the white knight

Gotham 4.5 The Blade’s Path
Hands up anyone who is not a character on the show who thinks that Ra’s is really gone? I’ll just point you to whatever he did to Babs (transference of some sort?) and the fact we’re so early on in the season, and that nobody really dies (except parents). But that was some epic messing with Bruce’s head from Ra’s. He snapped and I was horrified, even by the almost comic-gruesome final beat with the skull – horrified for Bruce.
Surely someone else has taken the tempting AU where he didn’t kil Ra’s, grew up, got married and had a kid. I like to think that if it was Selina, she’d at least put up a fight. But I don’t think I could write the ending of that.
Siddig continues to have fun as we realised R’as owned Blackrock, Mazouz continues to impress as Bruce brooded over Alex’s death, wasn’t deaf around Jim and Alfred, went on his ill-advised trip and underestimated his enemy, who pressed his buttons and got the result he wanted. I think he’s aiming to corrupt his heir.
Jim and Harvey reminded us they’re at a stalemate over Pax Penguina, but we quickly moved on to Who Jim Thinks Bruce Is, squabbling with Alfred over trying to protect Bruce (from himself), and getting into a brawl with ‘Ra’s al Ghul’s men’ (members of the League of Shadows?) I liked the reference to that time Jim was in prison, as I remember that.
Sadly, again, Sofia aside, the women had little to do. Babs wore an even shinier suit than Ed, they were hardly subtle about ‘the Doc’ at the fighting club being important and, unsurprisingly, it was an embittered looking Lee.
Sofia continued to work on Penguin’s aggressive paranoia, and in finding the orphaned child, got somewhere. Somewhere involving a foot massage!?!? She must be playing a loooong game, because she has very few soldiers.
Then Butch came back…asThe Toxic Avenger Zombie Hulk Solomon Grundy. I felt a bit of I Don’t Read The Comics, but the show tried to dangle an odd buddy relationship between him and Ed, who comprehensively proved that he wasn’t the brains in the pharmacy robbery. That was actually funny, Solomon’s fixation on Ed and the burgeoning double act less so for me. Oh, but the good old ‘we need your weapons. All of them’ routine with Alfred was actually funny. I probably don’t give Sean Pertwee enough credit in general.
E4 has pushed Timeless back an hour to air The 100 with no consideration for me at all.
