shallownessI’ve posted To Life, a two-part Gotham fic (Teen, OMC/OFC, Bruce Wayne, Ivy Pepper, Set during 4.14, with mild spoilers for 4.19. Summary: Gotham’s elite are expected to attend each other’s fundraisers.)
I started writing this after seeing 4.14, and it’s about an observation I’ve long made – seriously, why would people keep going to these dos when gangs and supervillains keep crashing them? It looks at the question from the perspective of a newly married couple, one of whom is Gotham born and bred, and the other is an outsider, who sanely doesn’t want to go somewhere she might be killed. The first part was the fic for the longest time, but I’d come up with backstory for Nina’s character and it felt odd not to present her views, unmediated, so I wrote the companion piece. It comes to 4,118 words total, which gives me a little thrill, but brought its own challenges.
As it foregrounds original characters, jumping off Ivy Mark 3 crashing Bruce’s Wayne Foundation event, and I rarely write multi-part or connected fic like this, I would have liked it to have been beta read before posting for reassurance, but it didn’t work out. My impulse was right, I only spotted a massive howler with the tenses after I’d started posting the first part.
I’m not done with fic inspired by Gotham series 4 yet. I’m glad I posted some fic during a hectic October, anyway.
