I would never have thought Poirot would be the type of person to go out and participate in these birthday games, so that was pretty surprising to me. He always seem too serious for such frivolities. Though, I wouldn't have been surprised if there had been an actual murder at Hermione's party.
Could never warm up to Thora, and after the makeover, disliked her even more though we did finally get to see her more of her true self there.
With the flashbacks, I too thought Hercule wasn't his real name and that it was one he picked up off of someone who had died.
Not sure if I thought Franklyn was the killer up until the near reveal, when he went to have drinks with Poirot. Yes, he clearly had motive but I still thought it was Cust until Lily told Poirot that he couldn't have killed at Doncaster because of the timing.
Poirot as a priest was an interesting plot point though it didn't really do anything for me. I think they could have left out that entire bit and the series still would have been good. But I did enjoy it overall!
And now, I think I need to go read the actual story and see how it differs. :-)
