shallowness: Fred and Ginger dancing in foregroud, him in tails, her in a dark gown, background a white circle (moon or spotlight) (Fred and Ginger dancing)
[personal profile] shallowness
Asymmetric one-sleeved black (?) dress with slit from Tess and a black trouser suit from Claudia. Black net over a catsuit from Motsi, gold gown from Shirley and camera hogging from Craig.

Oti’s dress looked a little…busy.

It’s that time where the celebs get to see messages of support from the public, usually involving kids and the word ‘nice’.

Emma got a fringetastic dress for her cha cha, but I could have done with more movement and was a bit underwhelmed for a semi Latin. The judges all agreed she sold it, but…it’s Emma, of course she did.

Kelvin’s quickstep was so light and fleet – my eyes were glued to his feet for most of it, although I noticed the nice accents and how Oti felt able to let loose at times. He was really in control. Is it okay that Craig didn’t stand up if he gave you a 10, Kelvin? (In a two-dance week, no less.)

Chris’s Viennese waltz was a fun routine, but it could have been smoother, I saw the return of the basketball hands, but improvement too.

No on Karim’s trousers. As for his Argentine tango, there were moments where he was just being Amy’s frame but then some impressive flourishes, and by the time we got to the final ganchos, Vincent clearly hadn’t been kidding about how difficult it was. Some very good work.

I agreed with the judges’ ranking. Their comments cueing up the couples were mainly repeating themselves rather than insightful.

Lovely music for Emma’s waltz and they created an equally lovely mood. (Despite the sleeves of her gown.) One or two hitches in the flow, but the spins were gorgeous. (Anton continues to pretend Katie Derham never happened.)

Thank you, Vicki Gill or whoever for Kelvin’s see through shirt. For me, with the paso, once again, he made a dance that everyone else had found tough look amazing. Then the judges nitpicked, but still gave him high scores.

Chris’s rumba was…not a disaster. Although I don’t think the ‘massaging my partner’s shoulders’ move will return in future years (and his shoulders looked painful at points), what he was asked to do choreographically was pretty well judged by Karen.

There was a lovely lightness to Karim’s American smooth. The last lift wasn’t all that, and I kept wondering why Amy was so slow to return her hand to his shoulder.

As I’m not from the north-east, I voted for Emma and Kelvin again (for her waltz, for his everything).

Stricrly Results - and I realise it's the last results show of the year

Wonderful routine to try to make it up to the past for what it’s had to suffer this year, with the pros clearly thrilled to dance with Carlos Acosta in a paso-ballet hybrid, especially Katya.

Enter Tess in metallic green, Claudia in zzz a black pantsuit (actually, it was very nice, apart from the hint of strangulation, but she’s stuck to black so hard). Shirley wore a white incomplete dress/drape/thing that got weirder the more I looked at it, while Motsi went for hot hot pink.

Recap that had Kelvin as the winner of the first set of dances and Karim as the winner of the second set, though that reading doesn’t work for how the other two were treated.

Kelvin was safe, Karim wasn’t.

Not!Harry Styles sang a song that doesn’t bear much scrutiny, but Gorka and Katya (featured again) came on to do some liftastic dancing.

In the dance debrief, Shirley only got the chance to explain and demonstrate one of the moves she namechecked as each judge got a semi-finalist to discuss. Bruno lost me with the technical aspects of music, whereas I’d followed his comments on what Emma had done in the waltz in the main show. The compilation could have been worse – Bruno has fallen off his chair less this series.

Emma was called safe, but in a less celebratory way, while Chris was back into the dance-off. It’s a shame that it was Tess who was there when he said what we were all thinking – that they’d save Karim – as Claudia might have pointed out that Karim could always drop Amy.

Spoiler: He didn’t.

Still, Chris can leave with his head held up high. Karim seems too highly strung and young to grasp he ain’t going to win and it’s okay if he doesn’t have the popular vote and should just enjoy being a deserved finalist on his own terms as Ashley did last year. I’m already thinking Oti should win on choreographing impressive lifts in the showdance.

PS: I haven't seen the Giri/Haji finale yet.
