Ah yes, the upswing of the season! LBBB does such a good job of smacking them all down in order to pick everyone up again at the end - the music doesn't bother me too much, but oh my goodness, is the "I serve at the pleasure of the president" bit cringey and dripping with cheese! Still heartwarming, though.
Danny was absolutely right that they should have asked Mandy about this before hiring her.[...] But they were too busy getting their kicks from sending Josh to hire his ex and watching the ensuing poer play?
Yeah, it was always my feeling that Danny hits it on the nose here - they didn't ask Mandy because they knew exactly what she'd say and they didn't want to hear it because they all knew it already. Making distracting jokes about her and Josh was just a convenient way of not having to talk about it, for sure.
I think the name thing with Mandy and Andy is just Sorkin being Sorkin. He loves to reuse names, and he seems especially fond of nicknames that end in y/ie.
Oh, and is Danny the senior correspondent of the whole press room, or just for his (unnamed) paper?
He's the senior correspondent for his paper (which I believe is the Washington Post, at this point? It's named at some point in an Oval Office convo). Big press outlets in the US typically have multiple White House correspondents, a senior one who writes the big stories and gets the big interviews and lower level ones who write more minor pieces.
Take Charlie’s advice, Joshua!
Josh needs all the help he can get! He's so terrible with her, not that it seems to put Joey off that much.
(And it was inevitable that that would come back to bite him, but given all the ’ugh’ moments this subplot/relatonship has provided, I’m not that enthused about its return.)
Sigh, yeah. At least it's almost over? I like Lisa Edelstein, I just wish she'd gotten to play a better character who could have stuck around. She'd have fit in nicely.
But the way they were clearly all so energised and interrupting Barlet’s much needed sleep was amusing and heartwarming
"Josh walking in was not even close." I love that scene, it's such a wonderful little warm familial glimpse of the whole crew together in a relaxed moment.
