This is a cute episode, though you have some of the same quibbles I do!
The Capital Beat music is recognisable to UK viewers as the ITV’s News at Ten music.
Ha! That's funny, I had no idea.
Let us remember CJ’s line about the (few) women having towelling robes at their showers in the White House as we come to the line that made me wrathful. Sam! Sam getting the President to say ‘sex kitten!’ About a colleague!!
UGH. Some aspects of the show have aged better than others - understandably, since it's been 20 years and the political & cultural landscapes have shifted - but this is the thing that bothers me most on rewatches, every time. The sexism! And while it certainly comes out through other characters as well (and the fact that the entire senior staff minus CJ is made up of men...), it's always the worst with Sam. I like Sam, I love Ainsley, I like Sam/Ainsley even, but some of the stuff he says to/about her is just...wtf. It's disappointing and infuriating on rewatch. The drinks & dancing moment is a funny one, but surely it could have been done without 'sex kitten'.
So, she then charged her husband with delivering a speech for re-election, and it was left hanging. How much does he know, how much is he willingly letting Leo and Toby and momentum lead him along?
That's the big question about Bartlet, really. Personally, I've always seen him as a very ambitious man who doesn't like to see himself that way. He'd rather pretend he's doing these things for other people - for Leo, Toby, the party, the country. But really, it's because he wants to do them, and Abbey is the one person who sees straight to the heart of that.
I have little to say except that was Papi from Ugly Betty as one of the experts.
Ha! I always think of him that way too.
I gleefully read a lot into Josh being discomfited by Donna pressuring him into asking Joey out.
Oh yes, there's a lot there and it's all delicious. "Believe me when I tell you that is not true." Yeah okay Joshua. You're fooling no one.
