In the middle of being fairly productive, I caught up slightly on Nashville (I'm still one episode behind), realised too late that I could have watched OUAT on 5* and watched Revenge, interspersed with snippets on Iron Man on Film 4.
Nashville 1.11 You Win Again Once (Again, 4oD advertises an episode with a picture from the next episode. Moreover, it’s spoilery. Boo.)
I was vastly amused by Rayna and Liam’s onstage flirtiness (and offstage, even if it devolved into friendliness the second they got off the adrenaline high) and how it’s pushing Juliette out. And of course she’s being a brat about it. Didn’t change my mind about Juliette/Liam, because while Rayna might be flattered by a younger man’s attention, at some point she’s going to notice his drinking. Oh, and there’s Deacon.
Poor Deacon, you play the white knight and you get slandered for it.
Meanwhile, watching tipsy!Scarlett and Gunnar singin’ their hearts out at each other, um, working on their song, was amusing, especially him slightly opening up and her being slightly sassier. Even if that wasn't the point of the scene, that's what I took form it.
Ming-Na is saying all the right things, but I think that Rayna’s thinking more of her career than her marriage...Seriously, show, I got there all by myself the first time, no need for Liam to spell it out (also she’s not fantasizing about you, well, not on screen anyway, sunshine. I know what was in your mug!)
Juliette’s from the heart speech could have been better, but it could have been a lot worse...
And Rayna and Deacon had a fight in which she is still dealing with what happened 12 and more years ago (she was so pregnant with his baby i.e. the eldest girl, which is why she chose Teddy. AMIRITE?) And he is mad and she is weepy and not spending time with her daughters.
Don’t be mean to Scarlett, Gunnar! Don’t you dare accuse her of not being serious when she’s being kind!
Ahem, Juliette’s treatment of Avery was hilariousbrilliantlysatisfying, as obsessed as she was with Rayna being on top. As ever, she handled her mother terribly, although Deacon DID let them down to mope. If the sex hadn't happened, because it icked me, even though I appreciate that it was a way of reaching out that got Deacon and Juliette to where they are, the Deacon-Juliette-her mother interactions are pretty involving.
Aaaand that would be Liam going too far and crossing one too many lines. Bye, Liam. I thought they were going to write more for you, but I'm fine with Rayna taking control of her career and its artistic direction. Again.
Well, it was nice to see Rayna and Teddy squeeze in so many grown up questions, but there’s no passion there, except anger at his doing bad things and him not trusting her (Liam was a proxy, sweets), and I never heard ‘working on things’ in her previous ultimatum.
Meanwhile, Juliette finally gave her mother some humanity and got a lovely moment in return.
Avery segueing from hearing his song on the car radio to seeing his ex girl singing with his ex band and Gunnar and all of them, but her in particular, looking like they had the time of their lives was ridiculously contrived. So was the Deacon reveal, but that was more fun.
And finally, because this is importantn. Whoa, Gunnar, perfunctory non-apology, much!? At some point, he owes Scarlett the truth about his brother.
Revenge 2.17 Victory
We had to wade through much I didn’t care about (Padma, Daniel’s FEELINGS, Declan being both sneaky and dumb in the same breath, Jack catching up partially with stuff we already know, Conrad and Ashley barely putting up with each other - how do you think we feel? - and Nolan being a drama queen about his hacker foe and Carrion – or so it feels compared with PoI’s handling of similar material) to find out the truth about the fire. Which is another big milestone in the Making of Emily Thorne.
Wildcard!Eli was charismatic enough that I felt he deserved more of a storyline.
I enjoyed Emily’s pep talk to Nolan, even if he is a sucker for her, and the feeling that actually she would have handled the situation with Padma, her father and Burn Gorman better. I cringed through the whole running on the beach bit.
The fact that Emily was driven by how life could have been different for her yes, but also Amanda was good.
I got distracted by the fact that Victoria should have hidden her trail of bullets better, but now we know she has a secret son (how thrillingly soapy. I hope he’s hot and a good actor!) And so does Emily and she needs to score.
