This was a Doug Judy episode, and mainly a Jake and Doug Judy road trip episode with cameos from the main regulars, most of all Charles. I’ve never dug Doug Judy, but I gave a couple of dry chuckles and mainly wondered HOW MUCH had Jake spent on him this time.

The big thing that struck me was when drunk!Santiago tried her ‘British accent’ and it was Terrible Cockerney in the vicinity of the one displayed in Mary Poppins Returns by Lin-Manuel Miranda, who of course played one of the Santiago brothers. So my brain was stuck on that a lot.
Otherwise, this was again bittersweet. The ending was a downer. I know they ended it on the funny of Holt and Peralta discussing the former’s huffiness, but Jake went to a dark place (over Speed!) and I respect them for having their white male lead cop mess up so badly and take responsibility for it, but suspended for five months? To be clear, I’m not quibbling with that as a punishment, but will the show skip forward five months or will he help Rosa when not looking after Mac? I can understand the producers wanting to deal with post BLM police trust issues.
The bits of the episode that weren’t Jakefail were entertaining – the very short snippet of Rosa not being allowed to do a Sister Act, which partly contributed to her leaving, heh; drunk Santiago and increasingly drunk Diaz and how their cunning plan didn’t work; Charles and Terry competing to sell their kids’ candy. I have to admit I just assumed they were both sabotaging each other, so I was surprised that that turned out to be the awful union guy’s revenge. Although yeah, it got nasty with the apples.
Holt’s speech when he got good and huffy was wonderful, and I do respect the show for going there, it’s just, I see the news too, some of which has been about police failures on both sides of the Pond recently, and selfishly, I want more com than that sit.
