shallownessFinal recs post of the year! Fic and fanvid recs in the following fandoms: The Martian, Marvel Cinematic Universe (Thor, Black Panther), Waitress and The West Wing.
The Martian
et quand vient le soir (pour un ciel flamboie): nostramdaus0 (Beth/Chris, Melissa pov)
Tremendous, layered outsider POV of Beth Johanssen/Chris Beck gorgeousness.
Marvel Cinematic Universe
Thor
And so we talked all night about the rest of our lives: Eienvine (Sif/Loki, Thor/Jane, High School AU. Multi-chapter fic with long (c. 10K) chapters)
I loved the translation to the high school setting, it was well worked out in terms of all the dynamics and showed a real understanding of the genre, and I enjoyed reading about Sif, Loki and Thor at this point in their life cycles. For me, it kept true to the characters – SIF!! There’s a balanced but sympathetic take on most of them.
Black Panther
Countdown: nanasekei (T'Chaila/Nakia, spoilers for the first film)
This is such a lovely look at their evolving relationship and I absolutely loved them as kids.
Waitress
Rosy Cheeks Mini Tarts: Little dust (gen)
Jenna is all alone with her new baby and her new pie shop on Christmas--at least, until her friends turn up.
Note-perfect loveliness. (It’s noted as being based on themusical, but I have to admit I was imagining the film charactes.)
The West Wing
Washington, D.C.: Josette Arnauld (Donna/Josh vid)
Perfectly witty song for these two. Great energy to the vid as well as the inevitable heart eyes.
