I would recommend The English, yes, with the qualifiers that there are content warnings - it's a revisionist western (lots of violence, referenced sexual violence and it actively considers colonialism and attempted genocide). It's not afraid of taking a wayward route, but that means you never know quite what's coming. I don't know how much of writer-director Hugo Blick's previous work you've seen before, I've seen a couple of things and this was the most succesful of his dramas for me. Emily Blunt is excellent, Chaske Spencer is a revelation and they're ably supported by great British character actors. It gave me feels - I think you'd know after twenty to thirty minutes or the first episode if you were invested, and it's only six parts.
