Hart of Dixie - 3.14: Here I Come Again
The return of Lemon! Which meant all the Breelands, bar Jonah, returning. I spent a lot of time wondering if they’d recast Marigold, but I think it was just a change of hairstyle.
Interesting that it was Wade that Lemon called, and not, say, supposed ‘best friend’ Annabeth, who would later suss out that Lemon was hiding something. I suppose it’s just a reflection of her not caring so much about saving face in front of him (and realistically it reflects main character hierarchy.)
Lemon called him from jail to come and get her, and as he did so, he and we learned what she’d been up to: hooked up with not!Captain Awesome again AND her gran’s driver (when he first turned up to serenade Lemon in his ridiculous shirt, he was responsible for one of the three times I laughed out loud at this episode. Meatball was the cause of another, and to my chagrin, Joel was the third. That golf programme that George and Lavon were obsessed with certainly didn’t make me laugh. It’s a terrible running ‘joke.’) Enrique was the reason Lemon had got thrown into jail. Nobody bar Wade could know about that or the two boyfriends because The Scandal would make her grandmother rescind her offer to give Lemon the money to buy Fancies. Lemon though this was feasible because she had a schedule.
That and everything else would come to a head in Lemon’s jazz-themed second welcome home party. Brick was throwing it out of guilt, shared by everyone, that they hadn’t been to visit Lemon and just got on with their lives/the show. She hadn’t turned up for the first because of her being in jail.
There was some stuff about Vivian and Lemon not having got along as kids and Wade not getting a chance to tell Lemon he was now dating her. AB not getting a chance/not wanting to tell Lemon she’d gone back to the Belles in her heartbreak. All Tom’s talk of a fire drill led to Lavon coming through for Lemon (O RLY) by pulling the alarm. Better that than a fire braking out. And George got roped into trying to plead for Marigold’s return to boarding school so she didn’t have to tell Brick she’d been expelled. He subsequently learned that Marigold, who isn’t just a tearaway but in danger of becoming even more amoral than Lemon, deserved the expulsion. Brick did find out and packed his delinquent daughter off to live with her grandmother and go to a ‘religious school’ because they don’t feel that the show needs teenagers.
Zoe’s mother was smothering her with appliances to prove she was better than the Wilkes and getting on Joel’s nerves. When she proposed to take Zoe on ‘as a client’ to try to get her (half of the) practice back from Brick, Zoe went along with it, because it meant her mother’s attention, until ‘New York publicist’ methods went too far in dragging Brick’s reputation in the mud and truth became a casualty. Zoe drew a line and her mother admitted she’d gone too far and should probably go back to New York.
AB, Lavon, Brick, Marigold, her grandmother and the beaux found out what Lemon had been up to. No Fancies for her. When Lemon found out Wade was going out with Vivian, she seemed delighted for them (probably because Vivian is not Zoe, who she still feels antipathy for.) The episode ended with both of Lemon’s beaux saying they’d fight for her. Me, I wanted Meatball to turn up to punctuate it, although I’m now convinced Lemon/Lavon will be back on eventually.
