Again, A LOT was packed into this. Silas and Domino had just started talking when Leon came back out and saw them. Silas seemed to have no idea how many bad vibes he was giving off. But Domino talked Leon away. Silas ‘just wanted to talk’… So they went to Domino’s flat and talked a little bit, and then sexed.
We got some flashbacks that showed Silas and Domino’s meet magical, and it gradually emerged that she had way more power than him, but his was neutered. (This would tie into Kat’s ancestors’ suggestion for Domino.) Their relationship developed, with Domino leaning into finding someone who seemingly accepted her for who she was (if only she’d met some other mentor character, a character who hasn’t appeared on this show, as yet!) There was chemistry, but, from an outsider’s POV, there were red flags.
Great reveal that Silas is Esme’s son – of course he is, and she was hardcore enough to take away a lot of his magic. Their versions of why differed, as Domino learned – like her, I believed Esme. A fight over this was when Silas began to grasp quite how much power Domino had and what it might mean. Of course, he didn’t tell her he’d learned she was a lamia, but tried to force her into undoing Esme’s spell, thus leading to the scene she’d relived, which is why she’d sent him Elsewhere. And now he wanted to try again, yes relationshipwise, but mainly to get his magic back. Domino said she’d think about it, and had to repeat herself to get Silas to back off. (Bad sign, Domino.)
The actor has quite a long face, almost horselike, but it has to be said he wears jewellery well.
In the meantime, Kat had decided that the best thing to do was to sever Domino’s magic. Sammy – quite rightly – objected, because it would take away a part of who Domino was and she should be informed they were doing it. There were varying views in the coven because the alternative was handing Domino over to the elders.
Domino went back to work and her boss made her grovel (participate in a speed dating night in place of a missing customer) for flaking the previous day. Leon turned up to check in on Domino and ended up having cute wordless communication with her while she was meant to be meeting men who had paid to speed-date. To make us feel better about this, they were awful. ‘What’s your five year plan? What’s your sign?’ This section worked as a bit of a breather for both Domino and us.
Jules was on potions duty for the severing spell. Kat forced her into doing something painful to make it work. Sammy had enough and walked out, turning up at Domino’s workplace…just in time, because Mr Magic Shop had set up a creepy trap and was about to throw some evil magic dust at Domino. Sammy pushed her out of the way and was hit herself, it looking like a massive amount of blood was seeping through the front of her clothes. Domino remembered a two-step spell she’d used in flashback, taking the wound on herself and then healing herself. (Thus proving Sammy’s contention that she could be a lamia for good.) This exhausted her. The ever Pollyannaish Sammy said she could feed off her, because she trusted her.

It was unclear if Domino had stopped soon enough. She seemed euphoric and powerful, and had obviously absorbed Sammy’s reading abilities, because she could see the rest of the coven’s auras when they turned up, presumably to cast the severing spell anyway. All they could see was a conked out Sammy and a rejuvenated Domino, who ran.
Dun dun dun.
There was some interesting stuff about family in this ep, not just the reveal that Esme was Silas’s mother (whither the father? What part did their parenting play in creating a teenager who’d torture a teacher and magically choke his girlfriend because she wouldn’t do what he wanted?) We learned that Domino had been abandoned as a baby (because she was a witch??) with a domino in the crib, hence the name. What a comic book origin story! It also made the trap Mr Magic Shop set seem extra cruel – Domino could hear the sounds of what seemed like an abandoned baby crying, but it was coming from a straw doll as a distraction.
Also, Sammy made the point that the coven as first presented to her by Kat had been family, but Kat was being a bit of a hypocrite, going after Domino for being a proscribed lamia, but also reconnecting with her ancestors and their equally proscribed magic. Leaving the coven because it too was toxic was like leaving her family for Sammy.
