The Good Wife 4.20 Rape: A Modern Perspective

Really good episode (the case was ripped from the headlines, somewhat, but I thought the episode went its own way to look at how modern technology, beyond rapists and their enablers filming totally unacceptable behaviour, and how teenagers see its use. I am not so convinced about the way Anonymous was depicted, although I bow to them doing it for the drama. Oh, and Kalinda’s lack of precautions in uploading that video.)

Other, scattered thoughts, I liked how we’re starting to explore the possible implications of Diane and Cary leaving the firm. It’s interesting that it might be both of them given their history (although I don’t think Diane actually will.) But, whoa, Cary stone-face lied to Kalinda and Alicia, and only one of them knows it, as yet. Love that we see all of their motivations.

Also, Kurt said yes! Yay!

Excellent deployment of DAVID LEE. (Just the thought of him becoming the named partner and Will’s near immediate downward spiral gives me the giggles.)

Fascinating that the top judge - although my response to his Mount Olympus metaphor was ‘shut your face, top judge’, and I would call a nice, pedantic appreciation for the correct usage of terms an asset in a judge, not sophistry necessarily – went for Diane’s partnership with Will. Now I thought Will didn’t do it, but that the judiciary or bits of it still holds grudges is interesting, but shouldn’t be unexpected from this show and its love of ramifications.

Alicia’s response to Will or her feelings for him, not to the paranoia at seeing all the Anonymous people in the Vendetta masks, was powerful. It’s also interesting to see her being the one caught gazing and going even deeper than that, because she's the focus of the show, not him.

‘I’m a terrible mother’ – no, wife, Alicia. As ever, she was all mother bear at her children getting those messages. You can bet that Grace was scolded into knowing what to do if she got one. (Appropriately given the context of the message to Zach. Oh, and brilliant intro to that scene, with him playing that military computer game. A telling passing detail about the life of a guy a few years younger than the young people involved in the case.)

I really liked Jason Biggs’s performance, even if I was a bit 'oh, come on' about what his character and his friends were supposed to be doing.

I’m glad Robyn (and her FACES) will stay, even though it was very much apprentice/master time as Kalinda chided her for doing special projects for partners and called her on lying. Which was delicious.

It’s quite amusing that Lionel Luthor is a second tier opposing counsel.

In the ad breaks, I switched to Starter for 10, which was on another channel and features Rebecca Hall (Iron Man 3), Alice Eve and Benedict Cumberbatch (Star Trek: Damon Lindenhof is allegedly sincerely sorry about objectifying Carol Marcus) and Charles Xavier, I mean, James MacAvoy. I’m pretty sure that that was the movie that introduced me to Cumberbatch, actually. Either that or Amazing Grace.
